Rider thanks for those kind words it is not that i have taken time to get to know the tin shack people its just that i have known them since i met mrs sarge and i have been accepted by them and they are a daily part of my life
My soi contains palace guards MIB maint Mgr electric company and water company and small business people and the tin shack people they all mix no problem.
There is however a difference of views between the 2 communities in how they percieve falangs it is subtle but it is there and it does not show when asked directly
I am not upset by night crawlers i am just not interested and as i rarely go down town at night would have no meaningfull input but as it seems to attract a lot of posters just to get the necessary 30 posts i was making the point NONE of my posts were made for that intention and that i am trying as best (albeit inadequate) as i can to put forward the Thai point of view after all we have far to few Thai nationals on this web site and it seemed to me when i joined it it was a little lopsided. I realise i will never completely get it correct and welcome the day some Thais come on the web and tell us all exactely how they percieve us even if it is to tell me i am talking through my bum at least i will learn from it but until then sorry but i will keep banging on about taking our hosts feelings and aspirations into account because it is in OUR best interests
Just a small clue for you Please look in FOO and read the topic s

I think you have it about right, the Thais are the most important people in this Country, this seems to be forgotten.
I was told when I first came here that the majority of problems I would incurr will be from fellow foriegner's. This is absolutlely correct.

Foriegners are so wrapped up in money matters they become bitter and twisted. I actually have stay away from the bars, the times I have gone down all I hear is bar owners gossiping about other bar owners and regulars, really sad. Most are working illegally or scamming someone or looking for commission from someone. Not what I come here for.

There is some truth in the above however I think you'll find Thais exactly the same if you mixed with them enough.

Buksi i understand what you are saying and up to a point i would agree but i still say they are different to us there religion is different there culture is different and there prioritys are different
There needs and aspirations are exactely the same as ours but they come at it from a different angle and its their angle that we have to take into consideration and so often dont which is my concern

I beg to differ.

Most of the people - Thai and farang alike - I've met in T-land have been nice and cooperative.
An occasional donkeyhole does not alter this. Perhaps I do not know anyone intimately enough
to have seen their whingey side? As a matter of fact most of the people I've met anywhere have
been nice and considerate. All one needs to do is to show respect and consideration and,
Presto sesame!, one meets only nice people.

Easy and pleasant. Works every time.

Well said, Farang.

Sarge, I really don't want to get into this, but please don't think you're the only one with Thai friends/relatives here or the only one with a handle on how "they" think. You have a good, but small, cross section of Thais whom you call friends, but what they think & what my boyfriend, his friends & the Thais I mix with say/said could be completely different. "They" should not be generalised about. "They" do not all think the same, no more than "we" do.

Yes, "we" should show "them" and their country respect, but I would hope we would show the same respect to everyone, no matter what nationality. As Farang was saying, the answer lies in each of us, individually. You treat people (of any race) how you would want to be treated & you're 70% there, IMO.

Dawn i think i made it clear the two communitys i meet with do think differently it is subtle but it is there and I think I made by inference it clear i was not generalising
I also made it plain in a previous post that how you ask them what they think, is going to bring different responces i also in the same post pointed out the difference between people you personaly are interacting with and those you are not.
with the mere 22 years i have been interacting with thais i am afraid the 70% you ascribe to me is greatly inflated 35/40% and i would feel chuffed to bits but that isnt the problem its the arrogant %#%# that believe they know it all (100%) that are the problem
and maybe if all the converted on this website talk about it and we can alter just some of them then it will be worthwhile but if i take the attitude that it is a waste of time posting on this website then this topic of thai life and relationships might just as well be removed

Sorry, Sarge. I think I was rather unclear in my last sentence ; what I meant to say was:

If one treats others of any nationality the way one would like to be treated, one is 70% there IMO.

I didn't mean you, personally

Hi

I strongly believe it dependant on the "caste" one meets, this will also affect relationships as diff "caste" expect diff levels of respect and behavior.

Exactely dawn
i am asking would you like to be continually told you are uneducated would you like to be told you need our money, do you think mrs sarge is happy being refered to as a grabbbing female and living with an ATM and only with him for his money
would you like to continually hear of the relationship horror storys and it always being the bad Thai female never the pure as driven snow male
would you be happy being told when you express concerns over your own country you are whinging
would you like foreigners demanding your country change to their system NO thats why I am here the foreigners have been doing it in the uk for years and I have learnt from that

The point i am making (badly) is it is a constant drone of critisism Thais hear it and talk about it contrary to the belief that liverpool man u and rice are their only topics and if you wouldnt like it dont do it to our hosts

Sam ill put you down as one of the converted with farang i just hope you will convert a few of the @#%$ out there that dont read this web site

Why am I the bad one, Sarge? I agree with what you are saying, for the 20th time!!! The point I am making, is that I'm the only one arguing with you & even I agree with you! So, who are you talking to? As I have said before, those of us who are even bothering to get involved in this thread agree with you to one degree or another - and the rest of the farangs don't care or won't read it, or both!
