Swimming pool question ..... Does anybody know where I can buy these small statues that sit beside the pool and spout water? Thanks.

Pete, you could try L x W x D x Farang factor = 500,000 for something for the kids to play in, or 1M if you want to swim in it. I'm sure the equation they use for calculating profit margin is a bit different, and I would be curious to know myself; however I have a suspicion that anyone in the industry is going to be a bit tight-lipped on this.

I just spent some hours today with an Australian mate who is in the process of building a 640 sq. meter house (too big!) in Bang Saray, south of Pattaya and very close to Sattahip. He's installing a pool that is about 14 meters long and 5-7 meters wide, kidney shaped so to speak. Cost is 600K Baht not including filter system or options. Just tiled pool with piping and ready to go to whatever filter system he chooses. Design is "Super Pool" where the water goes over all sides into a trough surrounding the entire pool, and into the filter system. It's a Bangkok company that is coming out here to do this. He's selecting a salt type system instead of chlorine, (Ausi/American technology so I am told), and that will add about another 100K. Accessories, about another 50K, so all in, +- 800K. Pete

PS: In case light bulbs are going off, he's buying the house in the name of his common law Thai wife of 20 years, house # 4. All is well, as it shall remain. These things DO work, probably more often than not, but we seem to only hear about the NOT'S.

pool maintenance.

Post by vincent chang »

I pay 2000 baht per month for once weekly service on a small pool in pattaya, but they also do a the yard maintenance and tree trimming done by the same guy. The company is australian, named esc, they also handle home security, and handle for the Hua hin area as well as pattaya. they also take care of my water and electric bills if I am away which is important as they will take your meter if you get behind in your payments.

Jackie,

If you come back and your pool is crystal cleaar with proper chemicals etc. and you are satisfied with your pool cleaner I would continue with him. For the sake of 1,000 bHT which really is not much money, you could end up with a poor workman or as often happens in Thailand ..no workman.

One thing I need to add regardless of 'where' in the Kingdom. If you use a Thai company, you yourself check to see if the man or woman really knows how to use a chlorine and PH test gauge and test chemicals.

This goes to back to what Winkie was talking about last night on another thread. I teach and teach, show the colors, show him where they should be on the scale, show him what to do with the chlorine, acid and soda to bring things into balance, and the lesson last for about 2 weeks and then as our eyes are burning out of their sockets in the pool, I have to do it all over again. His thinking seems to be to just throw in chlorine and the water stays nice and clear and the world is good.

At this point I've told them to clean only and I'll do the testing and chemical add myself. Pete

This is newbie question, but wouldn't it easier and a lot cheaper to drain the pool before you leave, seal it up and hey presto! No pool maintanence fees while you're away!
When you tootle on back into town for your winter retreat from Blighty just unseal the pool and filters etc, fill the baby on up and your back in business! :)

Or is what I just came out with completely impossible / a nightmare?

I got some warnings about that method Rider.
Some workers, (Thais), say that the tiles will loosen and fell down if you drain the pool and leave it that way for a certain amount of time. (Some months).
They told me that the heat would cause it.
Don't know if this is true or correct.
Does anybody know this for sure?
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

We've our pool in pattaya for the last 4 years and used 3 different companies in that time and looking at the last maintainence charts it shows in a lot of places with impossible jumps in ph etc over short spces of time without anything being added.
My next door neighbour also tells me the pool cleaner only comes every 10 or 11 days to mow instead of twice a week for pool and marks that of as 3 visits.
I've a similar deal as above with the lawn mowing. It's a better common price in pattaya.

I'd have to agree with the last post do it yourself if staying in the place a while.

Best things about pools are getting them and getting rid of them.
