Health Insurance & Claims

Post by JimmyGreaves »

Hi

Anyone over 60 got a health insurance policy and had to make a claim?
  • How was your claim dealt with?
  • Did you have to pay up front?
  • How long before you received compensation if you had to pay up front?
  • Was you insurance bought in Thailand?
  • Was the insurance company available immediately any day or time of day to help you?
  • Anyone ever received a no claims bonus?
Please add any other issues or compliments as trying to evaluate self insuring or not. If you cannot name the insurance company please sent me a private message.

Thanks &

I got insurance from a ex sponsor here, AAA insurance. A month after I got the insurance I had to go to the hospital (Bangkok Hospital) for 6 days. The insurance company must have been skeptical although why I was there wasn't something I could wait on but they paid 100% of the bill with no questions to me. Julie at AAA has been great. The policy covers me for 2 months out of the country. I got stuck in the States for 6 months when covid hit and Thailand closed. The insurance company, through my broker, extended the 2 months to cover me.

Not sure of 24/7 coverage but when I email I always get a response quickly.

I have had health insurance through AA Insurance since 2008, minimal claims over the years, last year I had a major issue, 5 days in Bumrungrad cost 780,0000 Bhat.
No money upfront all paid for by Insurance company. Never had any issues. I am 69 years old. 100% service and lifetime coverage

What insurance company did you guys have success with?

Thanks

Would be handy to have a few insurance company names so we can figure out which ones are better at paying out and which ones are more likely to be anal about it.

Also following this thread with interest - may be in the market for health insurance soon, but all the nightmare stories of them worming out of paying out or kicking you out when you reach a certain age is putting me off.

Basically they like to insure low risks - high risks are priced out of reach!!

I get insurance from April insurance through Jenny at AA Insurance. The time I was in Bangkok hospital they covered 100%, no upfront payment needed. They also didn't charge me for my deductible.

The policy I have allows one to be out of country 2 months yet retain coverage in whatever country. I got stuck in the States for 6 months when covid hit and Thailand was locked down but Jenny called April Insurance each month and they extended that coverage for all 6 months, no extra charge. Jenny also responds by e-mail extremely quickly. I hate insurance but am very satisfied with AA and April (although I think it's a silly name for an insurance company).

Interesting information:

Would you be so kind to let me/us know what Insurance company you used please and if you went direct or via a broker?
Do you contact the broker or insurance company in the event of an accident/claim?
Were you aware that you needed to pay upfront before the hospital dealt with you?
How long had you had the policy before you claimed?

Thanks

Jimmy
