Just pulled this off FB:
Since today is National Drink Beer Day, let's toast to the King! 👑🍺🍻 as André the Giant has successfully held the record for the most Beer consumed in a single sitting for the last 40 years!!! During a six-hour period back in 1976, André drank 119 standard 12 ounce brews in a pub in Pennsylvania.... whoa. Think about it: 119 beers in six hours. That’s a beer every three minutes, non stop. That’s beyond epic. It’s beyond the ken of mortal men. It’s god-like. When he “quit drinking” he still drank five bottles of wine at dinner. According to an interview with David Lettermen, Andre the Giant once “quit drinking” to get to a trim 475 pounds. During this period, he would still drank three to five bottles of white wine with dinner.
One beer every 3 minutes for 6 hours!!!!

And talking of beer, I took these pics on the 4th, of a new business getting ready to open, by the entrance to Bluport, next to Coffee Club. Looks interesting.

I’m looking the menu, reviews, and photos from the Bangkok location. This will be a fantastic addition to Hua Hin. I’m excited. My fingers are crossed that they will carry some of my favorite American IPAs (Dogfish Head 90-Minute, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Green Flash).

It's over ten years since I've been there but I remember when the Mall in Khorat used to have a half decent bar by the entrance with live music in the afternoons.
It made going to a shopping mall seem worthwhile!

Me and you both. It was a decent bar as well. The nearest I have seen to that is at K village on Sukhumvit soi26 (Soi Ari) in Bkk - other end to Sukhumvit. They have a specialist beer bar and restaurant there. Often pop into the village at weekends when in Bkk, as they also have a market area, often with lots of home made food produce.

Edit: I have just realised the place I mentioned at K village is the beer collection mentioned by Jack! I didnt realise it was the same company.

I saw large bottles of the Carabao dark beer in the small supermarket just up the road from Nany's in Soi 88 but as it was 10.30 I could not buy to try. It was a reasonable price, along the lines of Chang and Leo.

I've just tried the Carabao Dark beer - what can I say? I suppose it was dark. It still had that Thailand chemical taste to me.

Mind you, after just one tin my son is predicting Man Utd to win by 6 or 7, so it can't be that bad

I'm currently trying the Carabao lager - it isn't dark  It has a taste of it's own, and sorry, I don't like it.

Another opinion, my DIL thinks both the dark beer and the lager are very good.

I've never understood the description of Chang beer as tasting 'chemical', but many people who don't like it say that. Just as I say that Leo taste 'soapy', like bitters brewed in the UK from Burton water.

Chang certainly has 'bite', and I've always liked sharper tasting lagers, as do many people (I think Thais generally too prefer Chang out of the two).

But then I've gone native, as I now sometimes have ice in lager-style beers (when in a bar if I use a glass).

There is definitely something different about Thai beer, and it tastes very chemical to me. Don't get me wrong, I've necked and enjoyed gallons of Singha, Leo and Chang in the past (often in a single session ).

In 2012 I had a stomach operation, and have struggled to drink Thai beer ever since. 1/4 pint is probably as much as I can drink these days without suffering severe stomach pain. Other non-Thai beers I can drink with no limitation.

I can also attest to the chemical twang of Thai lager (for me Leo is the worst). On the road at the moment having sampled many different beers in four different major cities in two Asian countries and none of them have that tang and after-effect you get with C,L, and S. It is also great to have such a massive selection, and no double pricing on imported beer or 'exotics' such as IPA or stout.

Either way, its great to have a new local player to challenge the Thai beer cartels, are they competitively priced?

Both were around the 60฿ mark, and bought from CJ. I believe Carabao and CJ are linked.

I suspect that slight chemical taste with Thai beer is a result of low cost mass production because the cheapest beer I can buy here where I am in Europe is Bitburger, which is made with the Germanys famed purity laws and that has a similar aftertaste.
