So many folk have asked me, & I have been unable to answer them...With the current issue regarding HRH the princess & her health status...many districts in Thailand have cancalled their planned displays..
...What about Hua Hin's annual 'barge display' opposite the Intercontinental for tomorrow night..??
Is it on or not..??

Re: Firework display on N.Yr's eve..?
https://www.thaipbsworld.com/no-bans-on ... ebrations/The Ministry of Interior has no policy to prohibit units under its supervision or the private sector from holding celebrations or other entertainment between December 30th and January 2nd, according to Interior Permanent Secretary Suttipong Juljarern.
The PM has stated that there's no special policy regarding activities related to New Year this coming weekend.

It was the secretary general of the Office of the Judiciary who started this nonsense. Some other permanent secretaries followed suit but most have since retracted their statements.
As far as is reported, it'll be business as usual.

And the usual business is, the left-hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
Re: Firework display on New Year's eve..?
What a pity we, among many others, missed the fireworks at Intercontinental, as we went for the count down of midnight and nothing happened. Yet on their site it says, I quote "Guests joining us on New Year’s Eve likewise can look to the sky as we count down to midnight and a spectacular fireworks display."
We looked forward to see the display but didn't expect thai logic !
I later found out that it was at 22.00 (grr) never saw anything about it, many people were at the beach and many returned very disappointed.

I don’t know how widespread it is (I suspect it’s most areas) but where we live, there were almost as many guns going off as fireworks - crazy place!!
Re: Firework display on New Year's eve..?
Only in Thailand could they have Countdown fireworks 2 hours before midnight. I guess we should have expected it though, because this is the 3rd consecutive year somebody couldn't tell the time.
We heard the 10pm fireworks, but didn't realise it was the main event. 5 of us wandered down to the beach at midnight, and were amongst the thousands of disappointed revellers.

The Dusit had theirs at midnight. A fire show at 22.00 initially.
Re: Firework display on New Year's eve..?
Apart from not being able to tell the time, I noticed that the 'ban' announcements have all been reversed. All that is except Kaosan Road. I'm always amazed that it takes just one person to announce a ban on TV and the media to make everyone believe it. My MIL was insistent that there wouldn't be any fireworks anywhere. Of course there were huge displays in BKK. Even Pattaya, one of the first to announce a ban did a u-turn.
It reminds me of a monk who predicted a tsunami in HH on a following day. It prompted schools to close early to allow parents and families to vacate HH to safer places. My wife at the time wanted to run away to BKK. She eventually believed me in that a tsunami cannot happen here in the gulf despite HH putting up tsunami warning towers. Shows how very gullible people are here. Of course they're taught never to question anything at school.
Watched the London display this morning and they really pushed the boat out this year.
Anyway, A Happy New Year (year of the rabbit) to all.

The mind boggles. It'd be interesting to hear their answers to the question - Why?
Maybe I'll pop into the Intercontinental and ask.

Re: Firework display on New Year's eve..?
At least the people in proper cities like Sydney, Bangkok, London and New York have learned how to tell the time correctly. Can you imagine if e.g. the Sydney fireworks were set off 2 hours early.
In all seriousness though, I wonder if it was anything to do with the state of the tide (beach was quite narrow this year), and an official decided the beach was getting too busy. With their very old Covid hats on, did they try to disperse the initial crowds to ensure social distancing. They did warn beforehand that if the beach became too busy, they would take measures - was the Tessebahn Jobsworth on duty last night?
And what about the clowns (I think they were officials) darting up and down the water line on their quad bikes. How dangerous was that in the dark on a crowded beach with kiddies running around?
