Unless it has changed recently, if you have a marriage certificate your wife can be piggy backed on to your account, meaning only one lot of 800k in the bank. It has been so for the last 20 years.

Reading a couple of reports, the wife has to be under 50 to get a 'dependent' visa therefore 'piggy backed' on the husband's visa. Of course different offices and even different officers have their own rules.

Not sure how current this is:
The financial requirement will stay as it is for individual applications. Please take note, that if you and your wife are both aged 50 and above, each should meet the requirement, this requirement will not be presented as couples. Yet, if your wife has not reached the age of 50, she can act as your dependent. Note that if you have a Thai wife you can apply for a marriage visa which has lower requirements.

Probably the best bet is to call into the Immigration Office and ask them?

Three years ago my brother and his wife entered Thailand on 30 day “tourist visa’s”, then decided to apply for Non-Immigrant O visas (based on retirement). Both were over 50 years old. We went to Hua Hin Immigration to confirm the requirements. The Immigration officer referred to “step 1” and “step 2” of the process. Step 1 is the initial application for the Non-O, Step 2 is the renewal of the initial 90 day Non-O to give permission-to-stay for 12 additional months. The terminology Immigration uses for the spouse “piggy backing” off the other spouses visa is “follows”. The “piggy backing” spouse “follows” the other spouses visa. It’s best to stop using the “piggy backing” terminology and instead use “follow”. Immigration advised that during Step 1, a spouse can not follow the other spouses visa, each person has to meet the 800,000 baht requirement separately. Each spouses initial application for a Non-O visa must contain a financial section documenting 800,000 baht in the bank for each person. I know from personal experience 9 years ago that a Joint account (in both spouses name) meets the financial requirement if it contains at least 1,600,000 baht, but it’s probably best if each spouse has their own separate savings account, each with 800,000 baht, and it may be important to note that when my wife and I successfully used our joint account it was for doing our first annual renewal (Step 2) of our Non-OA visas. Only during Step 2, applying for a 12 month extension, can one spouse “follow” the other spouses visa. To do this, the application package of the person doing the “following” will not need a financial section (bank letter, etc) but will instead need a “marriage license” section. In our case, the marriage license section includes a copy of our marriage license, a copy of the notarized affidavit obtained from the US Embassy in Bangkok stating that we are married, as well as the originals of both documents, which one should be extremely careful to ensure you get the originals back as you will need them next time you do a 12 month extension. The “following” spouse can apply for their step 2 extension either at the same time as the primary spouse, or separately after the primary spouse has renewed and the “following” spouse will need a copy of the primary spouses passport and visa pages.
