Sport’s Personality of the Year

Post by Dannie Boy »

Many will be aware that the BBC hold this award ceremony every year and in the past I’ve found it somewhat entertaining, but for the life of me I could not get excited about this year’s shortlist, and definitely won’t be watching it!!

I tend to agree, however Stokes the England cricket captain, has done a magnificent job in changing test match cricket.

Well, I lost interest in this several years back and this year's list of contenders certainly isn't going to change things.... O'Sullivan - "personality"? :?

That said, would agree with lindos' comment regarding Stokes.

Sports Personality of the Year. Sounds like something from a social media site.
"Hi, I'm the sports personality of the year."
"Hello to you too, I'm the business personality of the year."
You could go on and on with this

Beth was announced as the winner of the event's main category in recognition of her international sporting accomplishments and the impact of her success beyond the world of football. The England Women's Football Team were also crowned Team of the Year.

I do wonder if sometimes the award goes to people in the public eye. Maybe no so with Beth Mead. However, both Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Phillips have both won the award. Would they have still been recognised for their achievements had they not been royal.

I’m glad I don’t have to vote - not sure who I would vote for out of this list?

Well, hardly the best of candidates IMHO, but I suspect it would be close between Frankie Dettori and Mary Earps - the latter taking the title. Then again there's obviously the "Non Gender" option!! :banghead:

Crashappen is far from a favorite of mine, has no personality and is certainly not a "Sportsman" in the greater sense of the word.... He has however dominated F1 this season. Haarland, an overpaid, aggressive, spoilt pr!ck has also dominated the football headlines....

How about honouring newbies to their sport, or those who have overcome injuries or disabilities? These amongst others are the ones that deserve the accolade!

I think there should be an award for people who would have loved to be top-level professional sportspersons but just weren't good enough.
