Thailand to experience total lunar eclipse during Loy Krathong Festival
https://thethaiger.com/news/national/th ... g-festival
Thailand’s annual Loy Krathong Festival will be even more magical than usual this year as a total lunar eclipse will grace the sky on the same day, making the moon appear brick red, according to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT).
The total lunar eclipse will take place on the same day as Loy Krathong Festival on November 8, when the southern limb of the Moon passes through the centre of the Earth’s shadow. The eclipse can be observed with the naked eye throughout eastern Asia and North America.
In Thailand, the Earth’s shadow will start falling on the moon at 3.02pm and will leave the Moon at 8.56pm. Thailand’s Moon will be eclipsed for almost an hour between 5.44pm – 6.41pm, said NARIT.
At 7.49pm, the moon will shift into a partial eclipse and then a penumbral eclipse, which is when the Earth’s outer shadow falls over the Moon’s face. The eclipse will be completely over at 8.56pm.
NARIT explained that a lunar eclipse is a phenomenon that occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in orbit, with the Earth in the middle. The moon appears a different colour as it passes into the Earth’s shadow.
The eclipse will happen just six days before ‘Apogee’ on November 14, another significant lunar event, when the Moon’s diameter will appear smaller.
The last total lunar eclipse happened on October 28, 2004, and the next won’t take place until March 14, 2025.
If skies are clear on November 8, just look at the moon in the evening to experience the eclipse.
Alternatively, the eclipse can be viewed in more detail for free at the following observatories from 6-10pm on November 8…
Sirindhorn Astronomical Park, Chiang Mai
Regional Observatory for the Public, Nakhon Ratchasima
Regional Observatory for the Public, Chachoengsao
Regional Observatory for the Public, Songkhla
Loy Krathong Festival is celebrated nationwide, but tourism officials are planning official celebrations in six provinces this year, including Bangkok, Sukhothai, Tak, Chiang Mai, Roi Et and Samut Songkhram.

Re: Loy Krathong Hua Hin 2022
They're really starting to tart up Khao Tao ready for next Tuesday. Some static displays are already up, the cleaning team has been at work, the gulley sucker has been clearing the drains, and I've even seen a huge area being cleared today, which might be a much needed car park.
Highlight of today has been watching them erecting the Krathing Launch Station. 2 guys stood in the lake (only one in the photo) receiving the components, while everybody else is moving the various parts. The yellow and white bunting had been badly vandalised, but that has been repaired.

Re: Loy Krathong Hua Hin 2022
The changing face of Khao Tao Lake.
3 November, displays start to get erected:
Yesterday, the lanterns and kites have gone, and it was looking like 2 years ago - had Loy Krathong been cancelled again?
This morning, we arrived at the lake (parking outside, and walking in) just before 9am, and it was like a ghost town. I started to think it actually had been cancelled. We did our usual walk around the lake, and had a coffee. We left at about 10am, and everything was in full swing (sorry, finger problems saw me delete a load of this morning's snaps).

Does anybody have any photos from last night's premier Hua Hin Loy Krathong event at Hua Don Beach?

Re: Loy Krathong Hua Hin 2022
I'm driving to Khao Tao tonight for Loy Krathong, any tips on best place to park or areas to avoid welcome.
Re: Loy Krathong Hua Hin 2022
Usually, if you can't find roadside parking on the way in, there's a temple just before you get to the lake - you are best going in there. Leave it as late as you can to avoid the really crazy traffic. We're booked for dinner at 8:30, and will make our way to Khao Tao afterwards - it will still be very busy. Don't worry about being late, it will still be going - you won't miss anything.

Re: Loy Krathong Hua Hin 2022
Thanks BB for the top tip. Arrived early, parked right outside the temple. Had a pizza and then got our float away, no problem.
Re: Loy Krathong Hua Hin 2022
We arrived just after 10pm. Whilst it was still very busy we drove straight into a car park space in the temple, and walked.
A lot of people, but I was able to manage the wheelchair quite easily in the crowds. A few snaps of the night. I was wrong about the booms, there were water jets pushing the krathongs out from the launch stations, and the spent krathongs drifted back in between the boom and the shore.
