Post by PeteC »

BREAKING NEWS: This is going to be a big one with many articles. Stay tuned, and cry while waiting.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-63155169

At least 28 people have been killed after a former police officer opened fire at a pre-school child daycare centre in Thailand, police say.

The gunman is still at large after the attack in Nong Bua Lamphu, in the north-east of the country.

Police say children and adults are among the casualties.

Police say the attacker shot and stabbed children and adults and is now on the run. A motive for the attack is unclear.

Just below the article on Ganja, from an Australian news source, in another post, is a longer article about this shooting. It was done by an ex-cop, who was fired for drug use.

Something deeply wrong in a society where mass shootings and road carnage are often committed by cops and soldiers.

Massacre in Thailand: No drugs detected in system of daycare centre killer

It comes as a great shock that no drugs were detected in the body of the ruthless killer who massacred 37 people – including 24 children under 6 years old – yesterday at a daycare centre in Nong Bua Lamphu province in northeast Thailand.

The former policeman was dismissed from the force for failing a drug test. He appeared in court yesterday morning on a drug charge and was due to attend court again today.

Given the perpetrator’s history of drug abuse, and strong links between methamphetamine and violent crimes in Thailand, police assumed that only someone experiencing a meth-induced psychotic episode would be capable of committing acts of such extreme terror.

Police reported yesterday that the killer was most likely high on drugs, but it would need to be confirmed by a test.

These uniformed people regardless of what branch have been strutting around like gods ever since the 2014 coup. Lording over people at events and gatherings, and more so during any periods of martial law or similar emergency decree operations.

That kind of power goes to their heads, especially the unwashed low educated recruits who get thrown into a uniform.

"I'm a soldier, I'm a cop, I'm special so you better do what I say."...and this junta has turned a blind eye to any excesses it appears. Not exclusively excesses of authority, but excesses in personal behaviour such as what we've seen with drug abuse/trafficking, gun running, human trafficking and a host of other things. If there is a story about some huge illegal operation, police and/or soldiers are usually involved on the wrong side in some way and at some level.

After 8 years their feeling of superiority has become the norm for some, so why be shocked when one of them goes off the rails in a crazed display of power?

You want to blame someone for yesterday, and for the Korat massacre and other smaller incidents, blame those higher in the chain than yesterday's killer.

On a personal note, I've been more upset and grieving about what happened yesterday than I thought I could ever be for anyone outside my immediate family and friends. I can't move on yet, it stays in my mind constantly. A lot of that is because of the innocent children slaughtered.

I always thought of this place as relatively safe from things that happened yesterday. No longer apparently.
