It is relatively easy to load other apps on, as long as the app is on playstore and you have a google account.

Enough memory /storage? Can I put vanced on it? Any come with Vanced?
Don't hang too much hope on Vanced. Just bought a box myself and installed the APKM for Vanced (version 17.03.38) and it doesn't work (it works perfectly on the phone). Will try an earlier version.

Ok noted re Vanced.

It might have been yourself who guided me re putting it on my phone about 1 year ago.

Good luck with earlier version, hope you crack it and can then help me get it on mineImage... ordering tonight.

I bought this one: https://s.lazada.co.th/s.SBUr1.

It has its little foibles (such as not always properly connecting to WiFi at power on) but it does have 4 different versions of YouTube (at least mine did): normal Android version, Android TV version, Smart Tube, and YouTube Vanced.

Thanks

To be quite clear, are you saying that those 4 versions were already pre loaded onto the device? Because the ad just says YouTube...

Thanks again

Yes. By the vendor I suspect, rather than the manufacturer. Also a few other apps I got rid of. Definitely not a standard Android or Android TV UI. Won't be getting any updates either, I think.

Just installed Vanced version 16.29.39 which works so that was the issue.

Ok good news, happy days

If you don't mind revealing what box/specification did you buy?

Are you happy with it thus far? (I'm finding it difficult to choose)

In the UK at the moment so bought one there on Amazon, its a generic box with 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage, 4K, and Android 11.

There isn't much between the boxes aside from memory and storage but I wouldn't go with anything less than 4GB as it'll be slow with newer versions of Android.

I wanted an open OS (which the smart TVs don't have) so that I can install the VPN and non-Google Play APK files which it does. Currently experimenting with various Kodi builds and the Real Debrid service which costs a couple of bucks a month to stream premium content (Apple TV, Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc).

Many thanks Buksi

This seems to fit the bill(but its Android 10 not 11)

Your comment about an 'open' OS just concerned me as I don't truly know what to look for.

I don't want a box that I can't add apps to(esp Vanced) or update

The comments section says you can add apps

Does that mean it's open?

Sorry for being thick, don't know about this technology(yet)

Thanks again

That link ships from HK so might take a few days.

However, the processor s905w2 is way better than the rk3228a in your first choice. In the budget TV box bracket Rockchip CPUs have really fallen behind Amlogic CPUs in the last 10 years or so and even with the 8GB RAM I'm not sure that the rk3228a wouldn't struggle.

As well as the s905w2 you could maybe consider a device with a s905x3 or s905x4 (newer) CPU.

This link shows a comparison between s905w2 and s905x3 - https://gadgetversus.com/processor/amlo ... ic-s905w2/.

In any case at least 4GB RAM is required for smooth operation.

Good luck with whatever you choose. It's good to learn new stuff.

Great Intel, thanks

Yeah, as you can tell I just don't want to buy the wrong one.

It's not about the money I just hate buying the 'wrong' stuff through lack of knowledge /research

Thanks again

Re: YouTube issue on smart TV

As previously mentioned I have borrowed an Android box(X96 max+) from a friend but this time with the remote control so that I can actually operate it!

So last night having set it all up and attempting connection to my room internet(nb which works perfectly well with my smartphone and laptop) I kept getting the message "connected, no Internet". And naturally YouTube/netflix said connection error.

So I went on YouTube(phone) and found a fix where you simply have to make sure that in the settings the date and time is on automatic. But this did not solve the problem, I tried it again and again about seven times, no joy.

But it eventually 'worked' by me setting the time manually and then going back to automatic. By then the internet was 'connected' and the "no Internet" message had been removed, so it looked as though the box was now successfully connected to my Internet WiFi.

But as before I still cannot get Netflix YouTube or even Google search to work. It appears as the internet is not connected even though it says it is??

I'm obviously concerned about buying a new box and experiencing the same problem.

Is there something incompatible with my internet Wi-Fi set up and Android boxes?? I can't think what it is because like I say it works perfectly with other devices.

Stumped!

Colonel , I had the same problem about the time setting when I moved my box to the bedroom so make sure date and time are correct.

One thought is your home wi fi 5 G and the box only 2.4 G?
