They booked an appointment at BKK hospital and I drove there from the clinic at Banyan. I did not wait two minutes at the hospital and two pleasant and professional assistants guided me through the process. They asked me to wait after the scan and less than ten minutes later I was driving back to Be Well with a CD of the scans which was immediately reviewed by my doctor. The whole process was complete within forty minutes!
In addition BKK hospital sent a report on my scans to my doctor two days later. I paid Be Well 1500 baht. When I read the reports of delays and waiting time with the NHS in the UK there is simply no comparison.....
I find this strange as an MRI scan is usually 45 minutes or longer
As for the cost are you sure you didn't forget a 0 ??

I've had at least 6 MRIs

The shortest was maybe 25 minutes, the longest almost an hour

Looking on the Internet many sites are saying minimum 30 mins

Is Lindosfan certain he had an MRI and not a CT scan which do last about 5 minutes

I have looked back at the details and now see that it was CT scan of my chest that I had at BKK hospital. Sorry if that has caused confusion!

There are several breaks during an MRI scan which last about 5 minutes each alone!

When the scanner is on its often on for 10 minutes at a time, 4 to 6 times(depending on which body part)

The only MRI that lasts 5 minutes is an aborted one!

HHTel wrote:I have a friend who has annually (I think) MRI scans. I remember him say he doesn't get change out of 25,000 at BKK Hospital and found it way cheaper to go to Bumrungrad in BKK. Despite the journey was more than worth it.

This link might give you an idea of various MRI costs. I note that even a wrist scan comes out at 7,200

https://www.mrithailand.com/en/online-booking/
Not a criticism of you or your friend, BUT......

For the MRI i need

HH Hospital WAS 10500 THB almost 2 years ago

BKK HH Hospital WAS 15,700 (same time)

Bumrungrad Hospital is 58,000 baht (as of today)!!!

And i simply dont believe that MRI costs have risen by 4 times in 18
months ish to account for that difference. Nor would it make any sense than for a certain body part it would be way cheaper than BKK HH hospital

please note i got her to check that info twice, and i know someone who
got it done there 3 weeks ago for 54,000

When i first read what you posted I thought it was too good to be true.

If Bumrungrad was "way cheaper" than Bkk HH, let me tell you id be there like a shot! Ive been there and it's fabulous 6* luxury!

When i read your post i was already booking my weekend in Bkk in my
head. But it just doesnt add up to me why it would ever be the case that
Bumrungrad would be "way cheaper" than ANY hospital in Hua Hin(even one notorious for being expensive)

Whether you check with your friend is up to you. Im sure what he said to
you was in very good faith. But did he actually go to Bumrungrad and actually get it done "way cheaper" in the end?

Curious to know, as something just doesnt add up

Thanks anyway

I will put that back to him. I've known him for 20 years and I know for a fact that he was traveling to Bumrungrad in preference to several scans he's had at BKK.
He suffers from something akin to epilepsy in that he can get seizures without warning. He has to take a cocktail of drugs daily.
But I will check it out.

Well you need to read what I wrote. Hear are the time details for scanning I have a single scan..
A single scan may take a few seconds or 3 to 8 minutes. You may be asked to hold your breath during short scans. The total scan lasts 15 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area being scanned and how many images are needed.

Well if there is such a thing as short/single MRI scan then I stand corrected! My bad.

However Im sure that the majority of MRI scans are over 30 mins and probably average 40/45 mins

Thinking on, I've had an MRI that lasted over an hour. Not an enjoyable experience especially with a bad back! ImageImage

Even worse if you're claustrophobic.
