I think the time is close when Cha-Am and Hua Hin will begin to see the yearly muddy run off from the north in your surf. :(

No one has ever commented on how far south it goes. I wouldn't think beyond the Takiab mountain?

Is there a website available that one can see a satellite view of the flooding that is going on now? Not a "live" shot certainly but perhaps something that could be viewed on a daily basis?

Nothing that I can find that's current for 2022. I'll post if I come across anything.

^^ If you would that would be great.

I went through all that crap in 2011 while living in Pathum Thani. I know they are having some flooding there and I would like to see what that area and my friends might be going through.

Thai Interior Minister plays down flood warnings

https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/environ ... d-warnings

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) today announced another day of heavy downpours, flooding, and traffic chaos throughout the country and told the kingdom to brace itself. The Interior Minister on the other hand played it down and said there was nothing to worry about.

The TMD made known it is 70% likely that the nation will be hit by another deluge and the kingdom would suffer from heavy flooding. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) backed that statement adding there will be floods, and river banks would overflow between September 11 and September 13.

Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda played down concerns of both the TMD and DDPM saying the country is more than capable of coping with more rain.

“Although one or two tropical storms are expected later this year, these dams are still well below their retention capacity.

“Authorities are sticking with the default approach of water management, which was designed to control floods, while at the same time keeping sufficient water in dams and reservoirs for the dry season.”

Despite the Interior Minister’s optimism, the DDPM warned heavy rain is on the way and the areas that will be hit the worst in Northern Thailand would be Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Nan, Lampang, Lampoon, Payao, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Tak and Nakhon Sawan.

Northeast in Loei, Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima. Central in Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

Banks in danger of overflowing are predicted in a number of areas near the main river and branch river of Kok River, Wang River, Yom River, Nan River, Kwai Noi River, Pasak River, Chao Phraya River, Loei River, Chee River, Mun River, Nakhon Nayok River, Prachinburi River, Bang Pakong River, Rayong River, Chanthaburi River and Trat River.

Large water reservoirs in danger include Maengad Dam, Chiang Mai. Kiw Kho Mha Dam and Mea Mok Dam, Lampang. Bueng Boraphet, Nakhon Sawan. Tub Sea-lae Reservoir, Uthaithani. Ubonrat Dam, Khon Kean. Lam Takong Dam and Mun Bon Dam, Nakhon Ratchasima, Bang Phra Reservoir, Chon Buri. Nong Pla Lai Reservoir, Rayong.

The DDPM has also issued flood warning notices to 23 provinces in the Northern, Northeast, and Central areas.

Thirteen provinces are flooded at present, including Payao, Nan, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Lampoon, Phetchabun, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Rayong and Chanthaburi.

In total there is a flooding problem in 31 provinces, 72 districts, 139 subdistricts 487 villages in Thailand.

The TMD reported from tomorrow the northern part of Thailand will be in danger from heavy downpours.

The DDPM warned people to be careful and if anyone needs help they can contact DDPM through Line Account “ปภ.รับแจ้งเหตุ1784” by adding Line ID @1784DDPM or calling the safety hotline 1784 which is available 24/7.

Didn't know where you post this, but as it appeared somewhere else with respect to the floods in Bangkok I thought I'd post it there. Didn't want to start a new topic just for this. Mods please move as appropriate.

Hope you find it useful.

Thanks for this. Very helpful. But amazing how few cameras they actually have, even in really congested areas, just 1 or 2 k's away from the 'centre' they only seem to cover.

The Chao Phraya River will rise in several central plain provinces from Sunday to Wednesday as water surges downstream from the North.

The National Water Command said on Friday the flow rate of the river in its upper section would be 2,100-2,300 cubic meters per second from Wednesday this week to next Monday due to forecast heavy rain. The discharge rate at the Chao Phraya barrage in Chai Nat province would have to be increased to 2,200-2,300 cubic meters per second from Sunday to Tuesday next week.

Consequently, the levels of the Chao Phraya River below the barrage and its tributaries would rise by 30-50 centimeters in Pa Mok and Chaiyo districts of Ang Thong; In Buri and Phrom Buri districts of Sing Buri; Bang Ban, Sena and Phak Hai districts of Ayutthaya; and parts of Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Bangkok during the same period.

The Meteorological Department said a high-pressure system from China would push a monsoon trough southwards to the North and the Central Plains until next Wednesday and that would cause heavy rain in the North, the Northeast, the Central Plains, the East and the South.

Over 1000 people evacuated after Thailand’s Mun river bursts its banks

https://thethaiger.com/news/national/ov ... -its-banks

The Mun river burst its banks in the early hours of this morning causing flash floods in Ubon Ratchathani province in northeast Thailand. A total of 1,015 people were evacuated from their homes.

The river, a tributary of the Mekong, finally overflowed after a steady rise in water levels in recent months.

The floods forced the evacuation of 51 communities in 11 subdistricts in Warin Chamrap district this morning. Volunteers from the Sawang Bucha Dharma Sathan Foundation waded through chest-high floods to evacuate households by boat.

Rescue workers brought equipment such as stretchers and carefully maneuvered the evacuation of three bedridden patients stuck in their homes. They were safely transferred to a temporary shelter.

The flood has impacted over 10,800 hectares of agricultural land, severely affecting farmers’ livelihoods.

The Mun river’s water levels are still rising.

Bangkok and 6 provinces warned of potential overflows from Chao Phraya

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/bangkok-an ... ao-phraya/

The Royal Irrigation Department will, from tomorrow, increase rate of water being discharged through the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province, from 1,989m3/sec to as much as 2,200m3/sec, due to the increased volume of water flowing into its reservoir.

The increased will result in water levels downstream of the dam to increase by between 30 and 50cm, especially in areas and communities around Pong Pen Canal in Chaiyo district of Ang Thong province, Bang Ban Canal in the Sena and Pak Hai districts of Ayutthaya and in the In Buri, Prom Buri and Muang districts of Sing Buri province.

People living on both sides of the Chao Phraya and Noi rivers have been warned to monitor the water situation closely and to prepare to move their valuables to higher ground.

Meanwhile, the National Water Command Centre warned Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan provinces today (Friday) to brace for possible overflows from the Chao Phraya River, as a result of the increased discharge to the North.

People in Bangkok are also advised that they will face more rain today and tomorrow, as a direct result of a monsoon trough over the capital. The anticipated amount of rainfall will, however, be less than that recorded between September 7th and 9th.

I reckon six-month wet seasons and major annual flooding will become the norm here. Thailand will only be habitable/nice to live in for half the year and two months of that will be roasting hot!

A six-month wet season with annual flooding should be a great boost for Hua Hin. In comparison with the rest of Thailand, we are virtually bone dry with the occasional shower.

It just needs somebody to market Hua Hin correctly.
