Thai Minimum Wage Increase

Post by PeteC »

As mentioned in the "Tourist Slump' Thread. This will help concerning the losses and effects caused by Covid and inflation. It's the largest increase that I've ever seen. It may also grease the wheels for the incumbents to stay in power if there's an election soon.

From Thai Enquirer news summary 9 February 2022

The government is set to approve a sharp rise in the minimum wage from Bt336 to a flat
rate of Bt492, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.

Quite a big jump. That may help at least a bit with the problems people are having due to Covid and inflation.
Prices of goods will rise to compensate and inflation will increase. It's a never-ending merry-go-round.

This amount comes very close to crossing the minimum annual sum that qualifies for income tax. Maybe (personal guesstimate) 85% of the population have not yet crossed this threshold. But once you're in the system, that's it. Something I'm sure the present administration would appreciate..

This minimum wage increase will only help workers in the formal sector. So many in Thailand work in the informal sector as casual workers and even today they do not get paid the minimum wage. Very few if any who work in bars get paid anything at all they rely totally on tips.

Is it legal already, cause y'all smoking some good stuff. They'll be lucky to see 10% wage increase. And only because election time is coming up.

Just noticed the OP, as I assumed ... yea, that thing. It was about the 'labor' groups' idea of a raise.

Being he M or L is floating the idea, and elections coming up soon, guess tolerating the General in charge may work out for common folk after all ... if ... the raise is a reality.

They're going to need it with the rise in the cost of living. A good wage in Thailand is 20k per month.

Yes, that's 30 ish % pay increase, and expect that to be added to any services used or products bought.

All the silly reason now that they use to raises the prices of everything, they'll have a field day with any pay hikes, as that's actually real.
