Benefits of being in a lockdown.

As we're all getting used to a lockdown, I wonder how many have taken advantage and actually reaped any benefits.

For my part, I started a Keto diet a few weeks before lockdown. I've taken advantage of the situation. I've become quite strict on the diet. I now religiously exercise every day. (My treadmill has had more use in the last couple of months than all the years I've had it). No alcohol. Doing some jobs around the house that I never got around to. And saving money to boot.

Consequently, I've gone from 106 kgs to just under 91 kgs as of today. I'm obviously fitter as at first I struggled doing 10 mins on the treadmill and now I can do 40 mins every day. Sometimes twice. Sit-ups, press-ups (well a few) that I couldn't do before.

I've lost around 2 and a half stone (in old money).

I'm very pleased with myself. Hopefully, I have the willpower to continue after lockdown.

My benefit has been that I now walk Khao Tao lake most mornings. Since Christmas I have lost 12Kg without any special diet. I'm no longer forced to go shopping every morning (by far the biggest plus for me).

Could this be the end of the overweight farangs. The Thais will have to find a new criticism to replace 'FAT'.

I fully agree with you regarding the 'shopping trips'

Can't really say we, myself have been locked down. Since new restrictions, coincidently, hanging out voluntarily, overseeing a house build the past 2 months. Prior, June till this April, been out & about, average at least 1 long week or 2 a month. All points S, N & NE. Only area we didn't venture to was bottom 3 province, as simply no need or interest. This past month, think I've visited every nook & cranny in PKK province.

Was loving it, as went to places during high season (Phuket / Krabi) that I'd never consider if tourist were here. I'd hate to be vendor though. Slim pickins for customers, along with slim munching choices in the 'tourist' areas. Though ol' favorites actually at the tourist areas were still thriving, as cater to locals more than seasonal tourist. We'd be out & about now if not for the house. Actually out the door this week or next, depending when not needed at the build.

Daily routine, hasn't changed a bit. Do morning & afternoon walks at surf side now, instead of alternating at the park, as closed, or supposed to be, though pretty busy this AM, at sunrise. While the cats away, exerciser at play. Drive by at 0800 ish, on the way to surf, and it's empty. Hmm....think I've been out of the loop, as didn't get the memo. Love how the locals here completely ignore anything.

If I didn't peek at the news, I wouldn't know there was a lockdown. Don't drink alcohol in restaurants, unless I bring it anyway, and that's rare. Surf side vendors rarely open or with customers, but the only noticeable thing, with exceptions of few weekender, and lovely.

Oh yea, did lose 10+ kgs, though not really dieting, just intermittent fasting. Eat whatever I want, 1200 - 1800 hrs. Easy enough if keep myself busy till noon after morning coffee. Large dinner holds me over till noon. So get my 15-18 hrs of fasting in. Actually works if anyone wants to give it a try. I didn't need to alter much as was almost my prior schedule anyway. Wife's a pain in the butt, as likes baking crap, but not eating it .... thanks. As long as the boredom munchies aren't there, I'm OK. Just have another cup of coffee.😂

I bought a 1 trick treadmill and walk 30 mins. 3 to 5 times a week. Depends on my day to day health. Don't drink or smoke and haven't for many years. Eat 2 meals a day and my life isn't much different than it was before the virus. One good thing; fewer shopping days. I'm with BB, I hate shopping.

Lockdown and weight seem to have an interesting connection. About two weeks ago, two different Thai people told me I had put weight on. :| :D
Sure enough, when I jumped on the scales I was 2KG up. Doesn't sound much, but I think the point was I hadn't realised I was gaining weight. I've tried to cut back. especially with chocolate and sugary foods. I think I'm going down, and hope to check this soon.

I definitely suffered Covid lbs from the first set of restrictions, and my 12Kg includes those excess lbs.

I put on weight during the lockdown last year. I was determined to bring it down. I chose the Keto diet because my blood sugar was high categorising me as pre-diabetic. So low carbs it was and my fasting blood sugar has dropped below 100 well in the normal category.
Although I started it to reduce my blood sugar, a consequence is a reduction in calories which helps with weight loss. I've replaced sugar with Erythritol which is a natural sugar alcohol without the carbs. I do miss sandwiches, potatoes, pasta and the like, but can still eat bacon and eggs, steaks, pork chops, roast chicken, cheese and lots of other 'goodies'.
This lockdown gave me the opportunity to double down on weight/diet/exercise. So a win-win.

Unlikely. I get down to a certain weight, and just can't drop below it, no matter how I try. I'm more or less at that weight now.

Good results HHTel!
I also took the opportunity to start a training program: weight down from 91 to 86KG, body fat down 6%, body muscle up 3%, general health and fitness much better!

I've also put weight on, boredom and restrictions have led to drinking at home which I never used to do. Only a couple of kilos but its noticeable and I'm now over 80kg. Went for a blood test at the Hua Hin lab over the weekend, that won't be pretty either!

The only benefit of lockdown I have seen is less traffic on the roads and fewer people about. It hasn't really done me any favours.

Here where I am we had about five months of almost total lockdown through the winter and it was a pretty miserable time so I can´t really think of any benefits.
Working in a sector that has boomed during the pandemic, I´ve worked harder and longer than at any time for twenty odd years with nothing in the way of any pleasure to offset that, no vacation, no socializing in the evenings, no celebrations of any kind whatsoever, just work, hanging around at home and going for long walks alone in lousy weather.
Locked
