อันนว - New Restaurant in Cha Am

Post by Ratsima »

Written as Unna but probably pronounced Anna, this small restaurant is in the same commercial block as the Cha Am Love Bread (On Naratip Road). The menu is mostly Thai with a few Wastern items. Best of all, they have a small selection of Thai craft and imported beers. My wife and I each had Thai food which was quite good.

'Un' (male) and 'Na' (female), both Thai nicknames, could come from their nicknames - perhaps the owners and hence the hyphen? Just speculating.
Interested in the craft and imported beers. Can you remember any in particular Ratsima? zassume they are prevented from selling it currently anyhow.
By far the best choice for craft beer around is usually Tree House Cafe, Hua Hin Soi 29.

Handy for me to take a look when safe to do so.

Thanks for the clarification on the name.

As for the beer, they had a limited supply from Full Moon, Stone Head and a couple of others. I gather the selection changes regularly.

I don’t know any other place in Cha Am that has interesting beer.

Can't be sure that's the reason for the name, but the nickname 'Un' is usually spelt ''อัน' while Anna would start 'อาน' I would think.
At the risk of getting them in trouble, could you get beer there now?
Have you tried Tree House? It's a hidden gem you'd never find if you didn't know about it and full of 'homebrews' similar to a few of the ones available in the brewhouse places in Bangkok. Note, if you are visiting, he closes at 6.00 unless he knows you are coming. The Thai owner is very knowledge about beer, speaks excellent English, having spent several years on cruise ships after leaving the hotel business and getting to know about beer while on shore leave in various ports of call.
Could post a picture of his fridge, if I knew how, but it's always changing and rarely less than 20 to choose from.

อันนา is a valid Thai name. I would expect the nickname un to be อุ่น - warm. As nicknames, อุ่น and นา can both be male or female. Maybe Ratsima can ask the next time he goes in?

Possible, who knows, all speculation. Certainly have two work colleagues at work nicknamed 'Un' (อัน) though. If I pay a visit will ask too.

We’ve been in Cha Am a week this visit. None of the establishments at which we have dined has refrained from offering beer.

Small town advantage?

Ate at a restaurant on canal road last night. No problem getting wine in a proper glass
