I wonder if they'll need a crossing guard to get people across the pump track safely and in through the main entrance.

Stupid idea. Let's attract lots of kids who have no money to purchase anything, but will loiter around taking up space.

Well, like I said, from the pic they have shown, it doesn't appear to impact on the entrance.

I find it interesting that our lives are so small that we get all excited about entrances to malls, a 20 baht discrepancy between Thai and Farang prices, the lack of good cigars and a myriad of other quibblings. In the meantime, I shall duck behind the closed bars in Bintabaht to dodge the coming bricks.

^^It's not a matter of small lives, more a measure of how fortunate most forum members are to have so little to really worry about.

And having said that, few of us are prepared to air our real, life-affecting concerns in public.

I've driven past this morning, and you are correct. As you look at Bluport from the road it is the right hand side of the new frontage.

Just heard on the radio that The Mall Group is pulling out of the Blúport shopping centre after making continuous losses since it opened.

I reckon that could easily be its death knell.

The mall group own bluport. Doesn't that mean that if they pull out of bluport it closes down unless they can find a buyer for it ?

Complicated by the top 2 floors (including cinema ?) being converted into rooms for the intercontinental - or is that postponed ?

A real mess.

But what about when tourists start flocking back later this year? Surely they should wait, knowing the recovery is just around the corner.

No, not serious.

The Mall Group do not own Bluport. They are or were a partner in the business. The building was built and is owned by the same group that own the Intercontinental, Holiday Inn and Water Park.

Why would anyone convert a shopping area to new rooms of an already empty Hotel?

From the changes that are being made, it seems the intention is to continue using the building as a Mall. I hope Gourmet Market stays. I don't really care about the rest, although if Mall Group stuff does go, then that's less choice in town for electrical and other equipment.

It would seem strange (even for Thailand) that they have just spent time and money on this skate park thing, if the intention is to close Blueport?

They could turn the entire ground floor into a giant skate park, maybe auto races on the weekends. Keep your eyes open for huge sales.

Handdrummer & dtaai-maai,

You both speak the truth, these are petty unimportant topics for the most part, aired by privileged Westerners, and no solution will occur because a bunch of us farang talk about it it in own little world.
But I look at the forums like small talk, chit-chat on topics that are our shared experience. Sometimes the information is invaluable, often funny, occasionally sad, but mostly unimportant in the real scheme of things.
Plus you are both regular contributors to said topics

Obviously the skate park is a temporary attraction. They haven't dug 2 meter deep concrete skate bowls or 6 meter high tube. I think it will end up being similar to Market Village; clothes, plants, mango festivals, Chang food festivals, etc

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
