Perhaps they are intelligent and well educated and wear masks to protect others,
If 95% of the Thai population had covid, I'd agree.
Unfortunately they don't, so sorry, I don't.

I can't understand all the angst about Thai's wearing masks. Why does it bother some people?
I am in Bkk and as far as, I can see, nearly everyone is still wearing a mask.

As far as I know 95% have not had covid, in fact only 4,736.512 have had covid. Which means only 6.744% of the population have caught covid., therefore the intelligent Thais either had the injections and wore masks to stop the spread of covid.

I don't think there's any angst. It's just perplexing. Certainly some tourists are somewhat confused having been told that there's barely any covid restrictions here only to see most of the population wearing masks. A couple have asked me whether masks are still required.

My wife asks me that question almost every day, and I give her the exact same answer each time, "It's up to you."

When will this Mask Madness end
While the rest of the world including China has moved on Thailand still continues with the mask madness. I can understand food outlet staff wearing masks as it probably stops numerous germs entering the food chain but watching the less than 50% of people wandering around masked up mingling with everyone else strikes a comical tone. Obviously personal choice for many and keeps the mask manufacturers happy but it does seem time to move on.

There are some outpatient clinics at Hua Hin Hospital where the doctor will not allow you into his office if you don't wear a mask.

Re: (Don't) Wear a Mask Debate
I actually agree with mask wearing in medical facilities as it should help reduce the spread of disease and protect both patients and staff. It certainly has its place but the blanket approach for many here hints at a lack of the ability to reason (which after many years here comes as no surprise).
Re: (Don't) Wear a Mask Debate
Yes, likewise at the eye hospital I attend in Bkk. No mask, or being prepared to wear one, and you won't be seen. That rule was relaxed at one stage.

Mask mandates in some places are already evident in the UK with various govt depts urging the return of legal mandates. Currently they're on advice but who knows.
The levels of Covid (new variant) shows an increase in hospitalisation. Covid in the UK jumped by more that 200,000 last month.
It's noted that most under 50's haven't had a vaccine for 18 months and under 75's for a year.

I’m registered with the NHS and I’ve received a couple of messages telling me I’m invited to have Covid and Flu vaccines

I have, but simply because I need to take Mrs BB, and it takes a second whilst I'm there to roll my sleeve up as well. If it wasn't for Mrs BB, I'd have most likely become as complacent as everybody else.
For my last jab, unlike the early Covid days, the building was deserted. I had to find some staff to jab us, so I'd reckon those stats apply to Thailand as well.

Likewise. Here in the UK I dare say I'm now at the higher end of the at-risk spectrum, and I've always had notification of due dates. Also, there are several location options, though now that the panic is over that is mostly a local chemist or my GP.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 4:00 pm I’m registered with the NHS and I’ve received a couple of messages telling me I’m invited to have Covid and Flu vaccines
I had both flu and Covid jabs at the GP surgery a couple of weeks ago, and TBH I've lost count of the number I've had since this all kicked off.
On the subject of chemists, I get an excellent service from my current place (not part of a chain), and they deliver, which is exceedingly handy as these days I have more daily meds than I can count most of which run out at different times, and if I had to pick them up myself I'd be back and forth like a bloomin' yoyo!
