I did. However, I had to have surgery in 2014 and Bangkok Hospital was the only choice. Haven't been back since.

Since Hua Hin Hospital has been built, it does provide a viable alternative. In the days of the old HH Hospital (shack) and before BKK Hospital, the more severe cases were referred to Petcharat Hospital, which is still a cheaper alternative.

Does Sao Paulo get much business at all now? Having been in all 3 hospitals many many times (young and stupid, what can I say) from what I remember it was extortionate prices and inferior to the other two (BK and Hua Hin)

Once Bangkok hospital opened, I never considered stepping foot in Sao Paulo again. My last bill there was 8000+ for a couple of stitches. Also, a mate nearly lost a leg from being misdiagnosed there.

Do any expats still use Sao Paulo. Don't hear it mentioned much. Or has it died a death?

Recently I Had a X-Ray and medics at HH Hospital and paid 600.00 Bhat.
Petcharat is a very good hospital, if you have time to travel to Phetchburi.

I've always wondered, why would a seaside town in Thailand name a hospital after a city in Brazil? There must be a story behind that.

They didn't. It's San Paolo.

The fees are exactly the same for Thais and Farang--But Thais get a discount. Thai logic.

San Paolo has identified one size fits all.
No matter what the medical problem is, Paracetamol is the standard treatment.

At a time I mentioned earlier, when there was only San Paolo and a very small HH Hospital, Hua Hin Hospital always referred their patients to Petcharat as San Paolo admitted themselves that they don't have the facilities. My son was in a road accident and San Paolo told HH Hospital just that. "We don't have the facilities". Consequently he was shipped to Petcharat where he got excellent surgery and treatment.

"In its judgment, the court said that it did not see that as discriminatory – because the higher rates charged of foreigners, who it presumes earn more than Thais, is good for the nation."

What a horseshite rationalization. :banghead:

What they basically said is the hell with you, foreigners. Potential post-Covid tourists, please remember that.

I'd need to check this, but I'm reasonably sure that dual pricing for health care across the EU including the UK exists for non-residents.
Maybe someone can expand on that.
