What about the upgrade to the airport/runway - did that ever happen?

I believe it did, or at least the airport closed for a few week while it happened. I used the airport a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed nothing, although not really sure what I'd be looking for.

In August 2018 the Department of Airports announced that it will spend 3.5 billion baht to upgrade Hua Hin Airport over the next five years. The number of travellers using the airport is expected to increase by tenfold, to three million a year, in that timeframe. The upgrade is part of the "Riviera Thailand" and Southern Economic Corridor projects. The work at the airport will take four to five years. It includes enlarging the existing passenger terminal, building a second one, expanding hangar space, and widening the runway from 35 to 45 metres. The runways RESA are below ICAOs recommendation.

Does anyone know where I can find which weekdays and times there will be flights from Hua Hin to Chang Mai in February and March 2023?

Well if they can't fill up a plane or 2 during the week at that price, you certainly can't blame the airport or airlines. Hopefully more than 2 seats available at that price 😂

Before I dig through the small print on website, anyone know the cost of taking golf clubs to Chiang Mai?

I really feel that airport management and air asia do nothing to improve the offer at Hua Hin airport. it is years now that we have promises of renovation, bla bla...and more flights, but nothing really happens. I even hear that the flights to Chiang Mai are in danger and could be close in 2024.

Well with 6 trips up there in the past 6 months and barely a spare seat, unlikely Air Asia would be pulling that route
if it was a Thai Airways route then it would have shut long ago

It seems that airport fees are huge and some other taxes damage the profitability of the route.

I considered a flight a few weeks ago, and the fare being asked was ridiculously high. I took 2 flights in November, and there wasn't an empty seat. If the airport charges are so high that they can't make a profit with full aircraft and high fares, they are as well closing the airport now and building condos there.
