Advantages of a Work Permit

Not counting the advantages a work permit holder has now in returning to Thailand, are their advantages to having a work permit?

Of course the ability to work but are their any other advantages? or disadvantages?

A work permit is proof of address so no need to get a certificate from immigration if you're buying a vehicle, applying for a driving licence etc.

You'll have to pay tax and the paperwork for renewal every year is a nightmare.

Aside from being able to work legally (which is also highly restricted) and open bank accounts with no hassle, there are no major advantages. A yellow book is a far easier route to address verification if that's what you seek.
