Covid-19 “hospitel” isolation in Thailand to end September 1

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/covi ... eptember-1

One option for Covid-19 patients with no or mild symptoms in Thailand is to check into a hotel designated for Covid-19 isolation, known as a “hospitel”, but not for much longer.

The remaining “hospitels” are set to change back to regular hotels on September 1, according to Director-General of the Department of Health Service Support Dr. Thares Krasaniyarawiwong. The discontinuation of the service is yet to be confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Tharet said that a survey in conducted in August 2022 revealed that there were only 11 hospitels left of the original 79 hospitels operating in Thailand.

“Hospitels” were proposed by the Thai Hotels Association last year during Thailand’s third wave of Covid-19, when case numbers were high and hospitals were running out of beds.

For patients with no or mild symptoms who didn’t want to risk passing their infection on to their families or housemates, 14-day “hospitel” stays were an attractive, more luxurious alternative than a trip to a hospital or “field hospital.”

At least 23 five-star hotels in Bangkok were converted into “hospitels” for Covid-19 isolotion, with a high price tag, for patients who could afford it.

The demand for “hospitel” beds has now declined, partly because case numbers are lower, but mostly because more patients are opting for home isolation, said the doctor.

Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office (NHSO) Dr. Jadet Thammatatari said Covid-19 patients should call the hotline 1330 to listen to current available treatment options.

Alternatively, Covid-19 patients can go to any hospital for an assessment. The doctor will decide whether the patient should receive hospital treatment or outpatient treatment. Thai citizens who are holders of 30-baht universal health care cards are eligible for near-free treatment.

Deputy Secretary-General of the NHSO Dr. Attaphon Limpanyalert said the office was trying to make accessing services an easier process for Covid-19 patients in Bangkok…

“Recently, the NHSO and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration have discussed the idea of developing a kiosk to connect Covid-19 patients in Bangkok with doctors for a consultation. Initially, we plan to set it up in Bangkok in shopping mall areas and in the community. The idea is to make accessing treatment for Covid-19 patients in Bangkok more convenient.”

CCSA spokesperson says 30,000 Covid infections per day

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/ccsa ... ns-per-day

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration spokesperson is warning that Covid-19 infections are growing, with an increase seen in 44 of Thailand’s 77 provinces, including Bangkok. He said that between August 7 and August 13, daily Covid infections had averaged 31,148 cases per day, despite the Department of Disease Control reporting official numbers of about 1,900 infections today and 2,100 yesterday.

853 infections were considered severe, with nearly half of those, 436 in total, requiring the use of a ventilator. 236 people died from coronavirus during that same week, though most were pregnant women, those with underlying conditions, or elderly people over age 60.

Infection rates are still high, and the CCSA advisor suggested that with many people not reporting cases it is likely 60,000 to 70,000. He called on people to remain vigilant and wear face masks when in public. Covid infections are expected to hold steady for about a month and then hopefully begin decreasing, with hospitalisations dropping to 1,000 per day and deaths nearing the single digits.

New ways of dealing with Covid are being rolled out though, and access to anti-viral medication will be getting easier from next month. After September 1, the drugs will be available to private medical facilities and to pharmacies to give out to patients, though only with a doctor’s prescription. Then on October 1 government healthcare can bypass the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation, previously required to act as a middle man in all Covid-related treatments, and get the anti-virals directly

The government has been stockpiling Covid-fighting drugs like Molnupiravir, Favipiravir, and Remdesivir and has millions stored now that they will be made more available. They say their current supply of 6.7 million Molnupiravir pills, 4.9 million Favipiravir pills, and over 38,000 Remdesivir caplets should more than meet the demand as long as they are used responsibly by those in need, and not people self-medicating without a prescription.

CCSA to dissolve with end of Emergency Decree October 1

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/ccsa ... -october-1

After over two and a half years, it’s finally time to say goodbye to our old friend, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration. PM Prayut Chan-o-cha announced that the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations which has been in effect since March 24, 2020, which created the CCSA to cope with the coronavirus pandemic, will not be extended a twentieth time when it is set to expire on September 30.

Thailand will enter the post-State of Emergency world on October 1, when the Emergency Decree will end, and with it the dissolution of the CCSA. From that point on, all laws governing Covid and any other health threat will fall under the jurisdiction of the Communicable Diseases Act of 2015.

Coinciding with the end of the decree, Covid will be classified as a “disease under surveillance” and the downgrade in status will come with guidance from the CCSA one last time. The committee will convene before ceasing to exist in order to create safety guidelines for people to lower the risk of Covid or severe infection, as well as lay out a plan on how those infected can best seek treatment and be cared for.

Moving forward, those with Covid can be treated at hospitals or can receive care at home using the National Health Security Office telemedicine system. Two apps, Good Doctor Technology and MorDee, will be available to help those who are asymptomatic or inflicted with mild infections. Another app, Clicknic, will be used for high-risk patients that suffer from eight chronic illnesses or who are considered at risk for being over 60 years old.

CCSA advisor Dr Udom Kachintorn says that they are currently 70,000 people in home isolation or hospitals who have Coronavirus though most have mild symptoms or none at all. That number is expected to remain steady for about a month and then start to decline. By the end of the year, it is hoped that Covid will bring about 10 death per day and 1,000 hospitalised people or fewer, but Udom reminds people that the virus is not gone.

“From October 1, Covid-19 will become a disease under surveillance but not endemic, which means wearing a facemask in crowded public places will remain necessary. Before its dissolution, the CCSA will propose guidelines for people to follow to stay safe from Covid-19, as well as instructions on how to seek treatment now that the disease has been downgraded.”

No strict Covid controls from Oct 1

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... from-oct-1

------------------
https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/covi ... -october-1

Visitors to Thailand will soon be free of showing a Covid-19 vaccination or test certificate as of October 1. The changes were announced by Publish Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul after a meeting with the National Communicable Disease Committee today. In that meeting, it was also deemed to be unnecessary for people with mild or no symptoms of the virus to enter isolation.

Anutin says the committee decided to redefine Covid-19 as a communicable disease under surveillance. New measures would be adopted based on locals, visitors and infected people. Such measures include advising infected people to continue to use face masks, and increasing hand washing and social distancing for a period of five days. After the five days, the restriction that would normally require a Covid test has been lifted as well.

The move comes as the Department of Disease Control deputy director-general concluded that current Covid-19 symptoms are not appearing to be severe with many infected people displaying only cold-like symptoms. But, infected people may have to follow specialised disease control policies at their individual workplaces that could be more strict.

The Thai government has been planning to move to a post-pandemic era for some time with health officials describing the situation as more of an endemic, rather than a pandemic. Just two days ago, the cabinet removed the virus from a list of forbidden diseases among foreign visitors, essentially allowing foreigners to enter the Kingdom even if they are infected with the virus. But, those with “dangerous” stages of leprosy or tuberculosis, symptomatic elephantiasis, third-stage syphilis, and drug abuse-related diseases are still banned from entering. Those deemed to have chronic alcoholism are also banned from entering.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri says about five million tourists have arrived in Thailand this year. One million of those have arrived just this month alone. The government previously set a target of at least 10 million foreign tourists to Thailand for this year.

Masks rule to stay for public transport

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -transport

"Wearing face masks on public transport and in cinemas is still mandatory, the Department of Health said......."

The only thing I have to say about this is how many mini-governments are in operation here? :banghead:

The CENTRAL government has already stated that masks are optional. I'm not sure at this point that individual venues can implement their own rules or not, I don't think it's legal.

Most certainly a branch of the central government can't come out with a sweeping statement like they have in this article. They are not a venue, they are speaking as part of the government.

I've said quite a few times, take some people out of their box and give them power and it's a real chore to get them back in.

No.

2 of our party did not meet the stated criterion, but everybody just walked into the stadium unchecked. Of course this is probably like any other regulation in this country. Not properly policed, so 99% of people can easily ignore the law.

For me, I can understand being waved through as a 6'5" & a peanut giant amongst a very small race, combined with the gate crew's very poor command of English, they will remember me time after time and it's easier on both sides just to wave me through. However, we had a couple of newbies with us, who they could not have seen before.

Mask wearing during the match was about 30%.
