I can only imagine that they'd be interested in the details page with maybe the permission to stay stamp as well. Oh well.

Maybe I'll just give it a go because I want this item and it won't break the bank if there's a hiccup.

Anyway, I'm dealing with a farang company, aren't I? So, they've pretty much guaranteed that the product will get to me (customs deposit etc), so I'll get my money back anyway, won't I?

With Amazon US you'll also get back whatever balance Customs doesn't collect. Always a pleasant surprise when those notifications arrive. I imagine Amazon UK the same.

It was so easy. It was only me reading an imaginary 'Thailand Factor' into the 5 day customs delay that caused me grief. It took 24 days from order, and my daughter-in-law will be putting it back on the menu tonight.

There was tracking from start to finish. DHL also have a very good online chat system, if like me, you start to worry. It couldn't be easier.

Maybe a point is being missed. Possibly this recent development is some measure of vindictiveness toward the new USA roll back of preferential tax treatment toward Thailand products. But my opinion, for whatever its worth, has always been that other countries should impose tax on Thai products that are directly proportional to what Thailand levies when those other country's products are imported here. Preferential tax treatment toward imports from Thailand, or anywhere, has always been backward. Thailand has enjoyed sending products into developed countries duty free but we all know what kind of duties are imposed when other country’s products are imported here, even if the items are not a competition to anything that is produced in Thailand.

My item cost £36. The import cost was estimated at £15.94, which I thought OTT, and transport costs were £47.92, but when we worked out the unit cost, it was less expensive than buying from Thai suppliers when the item is available.

I guess dragging customs clearance out to 5 days work sort of justifies their cost.

As promised several posts above, Christmas gifts have now arrived via UPS from Amazon USA. A variety of electronic goods, clothing, accessories etc. All was addressed to the wife's Thai name, and all came through without delay or needing any further documentation or duty payment other than what was already on deposit with Amazon.

We probably don't have enough evidence yet that they are targeting overseas shipments addressed to foreigners, and to clinch it I'll have to purchase something addressed to my name and see what happens. That won't be for a few months though unfortunately.

If anyone else has future experiences concerning items addressed to a foreigner's name, please let us know what happens.

I meant to post on this a week or so ago.

My Amazon purchase from America came through without the need for me to send passport details etc. I was prepared for that but the package arrived two days early. It was addressed to me (farang name). The goods cost just over 7,000 THB that was inclusive of shipping and Amazon's duty deposit.

That's good news Lomu. Perhaps what happened to Don and BB was an anomaly, or it had something to do with the specific product. Let's hope so.....

Hi,

Just an update to my original cry for help :D

It took me 2, possibly 3 days at most, before I could scan the documents which would hopefully enable our shipment to clear customs. I was feeling quite chuffed with myself, ....... until my wife informed me that the order had been cancelled! The reason? ........ "Customer refused delivery!"

We did receive a refund, although we lost a few pence due to exchange rate differences. :(

So ......... last Sunday 1st December my wife ordered the same product (albeit a smaller quantity) from IHerb USA with an expected delivery between 12th -19th December.

It arrived at our door this morning from Los Angeles (via Hong Kong) with no problems with customs, or anybody else ....... well apart from us initially not hearing the delivery guy at the door!

Quite fantastic service ..... The package was addressed to a farange. The cost was 1271.75 Baht.

Was it delivered via local post of a private delivery company. I've had 2 orders from iherb "lost" this year, when delivered via local post. The one's that got through were delivered via private carrier. DHL takes no responsibly for the package once it reaches Thailand and it takes 6 weeks from shipping date to get a refund.

Hi handdrummer,

I'm afraid I don't know who made the final delivery to us. What is the difference between a private delivery company and a private carrier?

I think the guy was wearing a uniform, and I signed his "atm" type thing for proof of delivery.

Apologies for not being able to supply better details!
