Thaksin in fresh football rumours - Crystal Palace

Post by buksida »

Nobody is confirming anything, but until a denial is officially made from England, rumours about Thaksin Shinawatra planning to buy a football club can’t be immediately dismissed.

A Thai business newspaper has reported that negotiations, primary or else, have even begun on the purchase of Crystal Palace, a team with some Bt5.8 billion income. English media haven’t reported on that.

Crystal Palace were a mid-table Premier League team, but then again, so were Manchester City when Thaksin bought the outfits over 10 years ago. The Manchester team were sold to an Arab billionaire just a few years afterwards. Look at where Manchester City are now.

Thaksin’s short reign at Manchester City did not end well, with large sections of fans criticising his style of management and the club not showing him respect on its official website. When he was in charge of the club, there were also controversies regarding his human rights records while being prime minister in Thailand.

One thing is certain: Thaksin has more than enough money to buy Crystal Palace and spend big on player transfers.

It appears that these nuballs just buy up football clubs to increase their ego and overall megalomania, they have little interest in the game itself.

Will be interesting considering he was banned from entering England (2008) due to the slight issue of him being a criminal on the run.

If I recall correctly, his visa was revoked whilst he was out of the UK, effectively stopping him returning. He used to have a house in Weybridge.

If he now has another Countries passport and is going to invest a serious wad of money in the UK, then there shouldn't be an issue about visiting the UK.

Crystal Palace deny takeover talks with Thaksin

Crystal Palace are not in talks with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra for a possible takeover of the English Premier League club, according to the Evening Standard.

However, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish is open to new outside investment, the London's newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The paper, which did not name any source, said: "Standard Sport understands Parish, who is not looking to sell Palace, would listen to offers to help finance his ambitious plans. But despite reports, they have had no contact with Shinawatra."

On Monday, Miti Tiyapairat, ex-president of Thai League 1 club Chiangrai United, told Thailand's ONE31 channel said: "Currently, there are negotiations about price, management, and some other details, which should be ironed out soon. The deal is about £150 million."

According to reports, Miti, who is close to Thaksin, could become an executive at the Eagles if a takeover bid succeeds.
"I'm up for the task," he said.

Thaksin, whose government was ousted in a coup in 2006, bought Manchester City in 2007 but sold the club to Sheikh Mansour in 2008.

City have gone from strength to strength since then and won their fourth league title under Sheikh Mansour on Sunday.

Before he took over Manchester City, Thaksin had attempted to purchase Fulham and Liverpool.

According to the Evening Standard, Parish would be willing to enter negotiations with the right people as he looks to raise finance to boost Palace's £100 million redevelopment of Selhurst Park and plans to revamp their academy, as well as support manager Roy Hodgson with transfer funds.

The Financial Times and Bloomberg have reported that American owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who have owned 18% of Palace since December 2015, are considering selling their stakes.
