Monkey sightings in Hua Hin Neighborhoods
Monkey sightings in Hua Hin Neighborhoods
I just noticed a facebook post where a family in a housing area had a monkey jumping around on the roof. I believe the area is a considerable distance from where monkeys usually congregate.
Is this becoming a problem and is the monkey population increasing to the point where they are venturing out looking for food and new territories?
Hua Hin could be a new Lopburi in the making.

I just had the electrical power go off for minute. I'm thinking that monkey is not going to be a problem any more.

I'd never seen a monkey within a mile of where I live. I'm currently in Bangkok, but my son tells me we had 3 unwanted visitors to the roof of the house in 2 incidents yesterday.

I saw 5-6 walking on the wires on Petchkasem Road, near soi 51, heading north towards Cha Am. It was only on that one occasion and maybe a year ago.
Re: Monkeys in Hua Hin Neighborhoods?
Pete, the monkeys in Lopburi are concentrated around the San Pakan shrine circle and roam up to a kilometer within the town. They are not seen much further away than that although they have been known to jump on the train to the next town and do take it back.
Most residents in town have anti-monkey repellents in place, have seen electric fences and inverted funnels on lampposts. One shopkeeper even had an automatic plastic pellet gun - I was a bit amused but he said it worked..
They still grab plastic bags from unwary tourists but most residents are aware of their antics and keep an eye open when in town

Quite often see troops of them on the cables heading up Soi 88 from railway road end. I assume they will be heading for feeding time at Hin Lek Fai

Hi All
I have seen a couple on the beach wall near the Sheraton towards Cha Am, which was somewhat unexpected.

We had one in the grounds of our apartment block next to the Dusit two weeks ago. The guards chased it off.

If a problem is developing I would think at least partially caused by lack of water>green foliage>fruit. Perhaps when it starts to rain they'll retreat back to their normal areas.

In our case, it is probably because the jungle outside of our house was cleared about a week ago - they do it about once a year, but it just grows back in 4 months.

Officials to sterilise Hua Hin monkeys
Breaking News April 08, 2019 11:15 By The Nation http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30367342
With more than 1,000 long-tailed macaques now living at Kho Takiab temple in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Hua Hin district and insufficient supplies to feed them all, officials are all set to launch a sterilisation programme to keep the numbers down.
Hua Hin Municipality’s Jirawat Prammanee said help had been sought from the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department in neutering the monkeys. The municipality will shoulder the costs, he added.
The plight of the monkeys at the temple came to light when a Bangkok woman, Pimolwan Silpwisetsan, 38, posted on a note on Facebook begging for donations of food for the starving animals.
She said on Monday that she has closed the donation account after raising B116,959. She used the money to buy 100 bags of dog food pellets and water containers for the monkeys at the temple.
She said her voluntary team would monitor and refill foods and water for the monkeys there.
Jirawat added that the municipality would also dispatch water trucks to deliver water for the monkeys at the temple.
Saroj Chanlad, chief of the animal health division of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Livestock Development Office, said there are about 5,000 long-tailed macaques living at three locations in the province.
He said the monkeys had changed their eating behaviour after being fed by tourists. They no longer scavenged for food in the wild and merely waited for hand-outs from tourists.

Re: Monkeys in Hua Hin Neighborhoods?
I remember going to see the Kho Takiab temple on my first visit to Hua Hin. Before that day I always thought of monkeys as being cute. I soon changed my mind after walking the gauntlet down that path when it was feeding time. The old lady appears with her bucket and then all hell breaks loose. Don't mind admitting I just about shit myself
