Reading Glasses

Post by fabman »

Could someone please suggest the best places to buy Reading Glasses in HH please.

I brought some really nice ones in Pattaya a couple of years ago , which were well made, looking good and inexpensive , but have finally broken now.

Many thanks for any info 8)

I don't know about the price but I get my lenses made at Time Optical on Petchasem Rd., West side, just North of The old mall that's just been bought and painted. They use good quality plastic for their lenses as opposed to Top Charoen, who use junk.

If it's just reading glasses you need, then you don't need prescription lenses and can buy off the shelf for a couple of hundred baht or so. + or -, just try them out. I'm assuming that you don't spend very long periods reading.

I am not so sure about this.

You have 2 eyes and one or both may be at fault and to a different degree too. I would go and have my eyes checked by a qualified specialist eg Dr Pairat just 50yds south of Market Village. He has a full opticians shop also and he is very good.

I have been using reading glasses for years. Luckily both eyes had the same deficiencies and needed to same lenses. Now I have 2 implanted lenses so need the same for each eye. So I have one good pair which never leave my house and I buy the cheapo 200b glasses for when I'm out. I loose about 4 or 5 pairs a year and who cares.

I had replacement lenses due to cataracts done by Dr. Pairat. At the time he asked me if I wanted him to give me one as a 'reading eye'. I thought he was joking at the time but he wasn't so I have one eye that is '+' and it worked brilliantly. It does allow me to read even the smallest print, assuming enough light. It certainly doesn't affect normal vision as I guess each eye will compensate for the other (at least that's how I understood it at the time). However, I do use the cheapo reading glasses (tiny foldable ones) in restaurants where there is no natural light.
Dr. Pairat used to be the only ophthalmologist in Hua Hin and he is very good.

I had also cataract operation by Dr. Pairat recently and we decided together to have different lenses, one eye to see far and the other to see near. It works quite well and I need no glasses any more. But he told me, that for some people it does not work so well.

Nice one pitsch. Works very well for me too. Going on 5 years now!
2 or 3 years ago, my daughter had specs made. I didn't understand why they were so expensive until I went with her for the 'fitting'. I noticed 'Guchi' on one of the legs which answered my query. Dr. Pairat say "You can read that?". "Yes" i said. He shoved my daughter out of the chair and asked me to have my eyes tested. Seems I have better than 20/20 vision that even Dr. Pairat was surprised at and had no real explanation except that because I had small pupils (makes the op a little different) it must be the 'keyhole' effect. Regardless, I'm chuffed to bits.

"Guchi"? Either your eyes aren't as good as you think or your daughter was robbed! :D

Ok SmartA*** GUCCI.
My eyes are good, but my memory isn't!

And it would have been me that was robbed. My daughter was still at school pulling the wool over me. "Dad, they're the cheapest ones here!"
