International money transfers

Post by dtaai-maai »

When I saw the article below I thought it might be interesting to post it on HHF. The subject of money transfers often crops up, but there doesn't seem to be a thread dedicated to it.

Anyway, I saw this article about TransferWise, it might be interesting to some.

Personally I've always used my bank, HSBC, which only charges a fee of £5 per transfer.
This is the way

I've always been very suspicious of TW assuming there must be a catch. Now having used it, I will continue to use it and would recommend it to anyone. No hidden charges. You're told exactly how much will arrive at your foreign bank before you commit. They use the same exchange rate as you see on xe.

Well done guys.

I have transferred money from my Kasikorn account to the U.K. and found their exchange rates to be pretty good compared to sending from the U.K. Eastward.

I've just used TW to transfer to Thailand for the second time and found the service excellent. Good rates and very prompt transfer times.

Edit: 2nd transfer I did using my iPhone very easily (TransferWise app & my U.K. bank app).

Are you saying that you used Transferwise to move money from your Kasikorn account to an account in the UK?
From a business account or personal?

I don't want to go through the hoops of signing up just to find out I can't do it.

Thanks

Excellent service today. I initiated the transfer this morning. I've just checked and my money is in the Thai bank already.

Transferwise does not have a licence in Thailand so you cannot use them to send money out. It can only be done by normal banks.

I can't imagine anyone able to beat TW. I just used them to transfer from the UK. As soon as I pushed the 'confirm' button, the message came back that 'You will have your money in 41 minutes'!!!

Do it with crypto and you'll get it in less than ten minutes (a few seconds in some cases) with zero forex spread and virtually no fees. :thumb:

Does that work? Is there not a buy/sell spread in trading crypto's?
