Afternoon drinking spots
Afternoon drinking spots
Where is a good spot for an afternoon beer or two?
Re: Afternoon drinking spots
OMG There are dozens of places. It depends what you want. Beach, quiet, noisy, great view, other farangs, food........ There are so many criteria. I personally, depending on my mood sit at Ton's bar on the beach near the Pattaya Ferry.

Yes crazy question!
Beach cafe restaurant Soi 75/1 is nice to relax by the sea and watch beach strollers, tourists, kite surfers (in season), etc. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive.
At Limelight Bar or El Murphy (look on Google Maps) you can sit and people watch at the crossroads.
Head down to Kao Tao beach for very quiet beach and sunbeds, and cheap food and bottles of beer.
Head north to Devasom Hua Hin Resort for cocktail happy hour (2 for 1) in a colonial style hotel. Lovely sunbeds right by the beach again. Very quiet.
Also upmarket is Oceanside beach club & restaurant, behind Putaharacsa hotel on Naebkehardt Road in town. Lovely.
Sit in one of the bars in Bintabaht (Walking Street) while it's quiet, before the bar girls arrive for the evening. Sit in comfortable chairs right on the street and watch the people. Cheap beers and local spirits.
I think you just need to get out and see for yourself.

Re: Afternoon drinking spots
Ton’s bar (‘Mon Bistro’) on opposite side of the road across from Holiday Inn Vana Nava, Nong Kae, and a one-minute walk to the right from the market if facing Petchkasem). A jungly little oasis, only open in the afternoons - [cheap] cold beers, good music and friendly hospitality

If you want company...Soi80
Hua Hin Bar 50b a beer , sports channels, some not too pushy girls and a pool table.
If you want pushy girls Full House.

As I'm living alone now this is something I need to look at, and I can update my list from almost 5 years ago a little:404cameljockey wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 6:34 pm Yes crazy question!

Beach Cafe - demolished! Corrugated iron hoarding might be hiding some new building going on, don't know.
El Murphy - sadly very dilapidated inside now but you can still outside. Quite quiet at that crossroads now during the low season.
Kao Tao beach - still a great place to quietly unwind, but not what I need right now.
Devasom Resort - still a lovely spot, the pretty hotel garden goes down to the beach and there are a few very comfortable sun beds overlooking the beach to lie on, or just stay up on the hotel terrace in the shade.
Oceanside behind Putaharacsa - very relaxing, upmarket sunbeds with lots of space around, also for groups large communal tables to lie around and lounge on large banquettes - book one because they get busy. Sometimes there's live cool jazz duo (phone to check I guess, if you want to avoid - or enjoy).
Bintabaht - not been recently but of course Bintabaht isn't what it was; Mikey's suggestion of the bar in Soi 80 sounds a good alternative.

Not too bad in Soi 94 either. Sit at Atmosphere in the junction of Mae Kep 3 and see the busy traffic people pass by. And the girls going to the bars is Wonderland, Oasis and Maldives. Or relax at Cheers in the stretch opposite Ga Hanoi.

Re: Afternoon drinking spots
My current favourite spot is Khao Tao Beach Lodge. It's a small hotel/bar/restaurant right on the beach at Khao Tao with great views out to sea and the local fishing boats. It's my particular favourite as the food is great but the main attraction is the Bavarian bottled beer, in particular, HB (Hof Brau) Original out of Munich, Germany. Quite possibly the best beer in the World !!
