Thats typical of Thailand to try and profit out of what could have been a disaster. I'm surprised they don't double-charge foreigners to visit tsunami monuments.

A shame they didn't consider safety before the kids got trapped, but of course, there was no money to be made out of safety back then.

Well, this article sort of justifies the high cost, but does nothing to account for the 550฿ Farang tax.

Where did you learn arithmetic? 950 baht for Thais, 1,500 baht for foreigners. I make that 550 baht or a 50% uplift from the Thai price.

We must be reading different articles - the last one posted by BB included this,

“The admission fees, Bt950 for Thais and Bt1,000 for foreigners, to enter the world-famous Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province have been criticised as expensive, but are set for operational and safety reasons, according to Chutidet Kamonchanut, director of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation’s Chiang Rai office”

Yes, I didn't see the 1,000฿ in PBS. I was, of course reacting to the Bangkok Post figure, which I would imagine is more accurate. I don't think I've ever encountered a Farang Tax of just 5%.

Regular thaipbs (in Thai) has it at 1500 bt for foreigners. So all are now in agreement.

Neither Thai nor farang price includes equipment rental. Whether there is dual pricing for this isn't reported. ImageImageImage
