"Should You Hire a Professional for Your High-Gloss Interior Painting Needs?
Yes, we definitely recommend it.
There really is no margin for error; one misstep will create a blatant flaw. It also is an extremely labor-intensive process, calling for very specific skills, tools, and experience."

Re: Buying Paint
Sorry if I missed that before.
Thank god, I was preparing for a tale of woe.

Re: Buying Paint
Actually guys I'm now sat on the fence.
With the right materials, I do a decent job. However, I'm not 'a got to do it' type when it comes to decorating - I actually hate it, and believe its a special type of guy that takes it up as a profession.
Since yesterday's mini-disaster with the gloss, and reading that it requires 4 coats of paint (any brand) if you want to do it right, I'd thrown the towel in. Once, even twice would have been OK, but this really takes the P. I'm the type of person who, if I know it requires 4 coats, would be happy if I'd only given it 2 or 3.
This is the stuff the shop advised was best:
Now that there's been 2 recommendations for Beger paint, I'm sort of considering re-igniting the spark of enthusiasm, but we've now asked our Mr Fixit to do it, and I'm a lazy git.
I've fallen at the first hurdle, and I'll probably leave it to our Mr Fixit.

Re: Buying Paint
FFS, I left that tin on the table this morning, and my son's girlfriend, who was party to re-assuring me that it was the right stuff, Thai paint is different etc., read it again and said it was the wrong stuff (I think I already knew that).
What the shop sold me was something to put an indestructible shine on the surface after I'd already painted it.
I was so angry, after being repeatedly told the paint was right but this stupid Farang couldn't apply it. Anyway, I've had enough, Mr Fixit, take the stage!!!

Re: Buying Paint
Enamel is a very bad choice for interior. Requires a lot of ventilation, a day or 2 to get the smell out of the room, and special cleaning chemical to wash the brush or anything it splatters on.

Now you're cooking wid gas!Anyway, I've had enough, Mr Fixit, take the stage!!!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Buying Paint
I woke up fresh this morning, and thought what the hell. I've been given 2 good recommendations, I've got nothing else to do and I know that would do a better job than most Thais - even our Mr Fixit who I have a lot of respect for.
As usual, we were in Market Village this morning, so into Home Pro - I couldn't see any Beger product.
Next stop the bottom of Soi 94. "Mister, Thailand no make white gloss anymore." She tried to sell me a tin of the same crap I'm trying to give away.
A very angry me is back to plan B. Actually, I have to re-think the entire project. If white gloss isn't available, there's a whole lot of house I need to consider.

Re: Buying Paint
BB, the paint comes from a well-known Thai paint manufacturer, TOA. I'll leave a link to their product description.
With any enamel paint, you need to thin it with a suitable thinner to get the correct consistency, you cannot use it as is straight out of the can. As you say, it will be used only for wood frames or metal. Get a can of thinner of the same brand, mix it and use it since you already have it.
since you will be using for small areas, use a brush to apply.
Good luck, and stay cool.

Re: Buying Paint
Everytime I mentioned Beger Supergloss they took me to this:
They then told me it wasn't what I needed. In every shop it was alongside the crap I'd already bought, so I wasn't going to take the chance.
buksi, have not been able to find the stuff you recommended anywhere.

Re: Buying Paint
Anyway, blood pressure lowered and I continued my quest.
I'd finally thrown in the towel after the 8th shop, when Mrs BB decided she was hungry, so we stopped by a little roadside eatery. I was quite miserable again. Then I started looking around me, and everything was painted in white gloss - somebody was taking the P.
A 2nd visit to Thai Watsadu was agreed (this would be the 2nd visit there, but the 9th paint stop).
At last, a young lady selling paint who seemed to know the difference between paint and pot noodles. She pulled out a horrible piece of wood, with multiple paint blobs on it, and asked me which blob I wanted. I pointed at the white blob.
We wandered down the aisle, and she pointed to a tin. After my previous purchasing disaster, I was very wary of buying anything. I read the tin, and it sounded right. She must have thought, 'what a Farang Plonker' when I asked how I could be sure there was paint in the tin (once bitten, twice shy and all that).
She took me and the tin to her workbench and removed the lid. OMG it looked like paint, it smelt like paint and I even dabbed my finger in - it felt like paint.
Guess who has been busily painting this afternoon?

Re: Buying Paint
^^ BB I think the Beger Supergloss would have been ok, though I tend to use TOA myself. Beger brochure:

Re: Buying Paint
Before I got them to lift the lid, I was told they've stopped making white. That, and it's position on the shelves in various stores, alongside the previous rubbish I'd been sold, made me decide it was a non-starter.

Glad you got sorted but yes that was the one.
Re: Buying Paint
Did you buy white, because they were insistent I couldn't get it in white?
