Re: Minivan, bus and road accidents
A good article on the BBC web site, nothing new to those who live here. Just amazing nothing can be done to stop this carnage.
Most likely the government will charge the BBC for posting this article.

Sorry I missed including that.

From the above story....."At a speed trap he had set up on a stretch of elevated expressway outside Bangkok, he watched car after car pass him at speeds well in excess of the 80km/h (50 mph) limit. He did not bother to ticket them."HHTel wrote:The link is: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-38660283
That's a very poor example he used. He's referring to the Bagna-Trad elevated Bangkok to Chonburi portion that has had electronic signs set to 80km since the day it was built. There are never any accidents of note up there as no motorbikes are allowed on it. 50 mph is wasted use of a well built road, just as well built and safe as the 75 mph motorway. I mentioned in another post/thread, 80kph up there is intentional IMO to fatten MIB wallets regardless of what the author was told during his official visit. Pete

1) Adopt a vehicle code which is a primary tool in establishing proper driving procedures and etiquette.
2) Publish said vehicle code, section by section, in newspapers and on television as a public service, and keep doing it for a very long time.
3) With thousands of policemen on the Country's payroll there should be plenty of bodies available to monitor the Country's highways for speeding, reckless driving, following too closely, and driving while under the influence.
in other words, Educate the public and Enforce the law.

^^ you are correct but forget to also mention removal of U-Turns and dangerous junctions from high speed highways.
Removal of dangerous, old and unfit vehicles from the roads
Re-educate to eliminate the Me Me Me, I'm more important than you attitude to driving...........

I think whats needed to be done is to get stricter on the driver's permit.
And why not drive cars that are eco-efficient?
So many times i see somebody take a dangerous U-turn while not really looking to the side or behind them. As if through thin air or magic, or something like that would pull them through. Its appaling to be truthful.
That's why i could never enjoy the pleasure of renting a car whilst in Bangkok. It's not driving. Its pushing the gas for 3 seconds only to wait a minute before you do the same thing all over again.

Those darn scooters make a lot of noise, tell ya that. And when you're driving, they seem to suddenly pop up out of nowhere. Right behind your left back wheel during a turn or some such.

I think that we all know at least part of the answer--it does not need new regs but the enforcing of regs in place.

This one has been doing the rounds, the phrase "som num na" comes into mind ...
