Backgammon Set

Post by Chazz14 »

This would be quite hard to find in England!

Has anyone seen one for sale in HH? Has anyone got a set they no longer use maybe?

At least one of the moderators on here should have one, and although maybe not for sale, perhaps an opportunity for people to get together for games?

Just a thought guys, as I remember having a similar problem with Scrabble until we got linked up with other expats for regular matches.

There are Backgammon Apps for iPad & Android. You can play against the computer or against a human opponent.

I saw some hand carved wooden ones at the night market a couple of years ago.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes, those are the only kind I've seen available locally. Awful things if you're a regular or serious backgammon player - too small and very rattly (no felt lining)!
This is the way

Thanks for all the replies - I will have a look around and advise if I have any success.

I can recommend GNU Backgammon which was a free d/load (Windows 8.1) for solo play. I would like a real set to practice situations on - much easier than editing on-screen.

I would be interested in talking about the game (and get some tips to make me worth actually playing)!

I have a briefcase set of Backgammon. Bought a very long time ago when I used to play a lot. Used it in HH when there was a Backgammon club which has long gone. Full set with doubling dice etc, felt interior leather outside and all what you'd expect. Not sure I want to part with it........ give me a day to think about it.

Update: My search has ended...

Found a suitable set today in the Basement in Market vilage. About 24cms square, folding, magnetic. No complaints with a price tage of B265.

Also picked up a Go set with similar design feature (B285) - I always was a glutton for punishment!

P.S. Thanks for your reply HHTel- I've just saved your a decision...

Thanks for that Chazz. I think I'd have decided to keep it anyway.
