I havent fished there yet, but I intend to. The water on the beach is quite shallow and sandy so therefore any fish you may catch would be quite small, try fishing of the pier, at least that gets you a quarter of a mile (2km) out to sea.
As for crabs I believe there is an area at the south end of Hua Hin that is quite rocky were it meets the sea, this is probably your best spot for crabs.

If you have nothing to contribute why bother answering at all?Norseman wrote:Who the hell know that?
I'm no firherman.
Try the pier.
I have seen Thais wading out thigh deep with hand cast nets and catching small fish and I have seen the same fish jumping out of the water to avoid bigger ones, so the fish are certainly there.
Some of the boats at Khao Takiab are happy to take out fishermen but I doubt they have much in the way of safety equipment if that is a concern for you.

Have to agree with Lev on this one but I have to add, that with a topic named "Catching Crabs in HH" I would expect some off beat replies.
Anyway try the rocks near the Blue something ugly concrete condo just south of Kao Takiab.

the peer is best bet, but still mostly small fish
A hey?, a thai throw net is easy eneough to use , costs well under a 1000, and will get u lots of small baitfish and crabs if there there.Shops north of the junctionof the main road through town sell them, and one nearer the pier.
If you do get crabs, just feed them sugar, it rots their teeth:-)
I fish with family on prachuap kiri khan pier, and i see people catch fish up to 1,2 kilo
I never catch any but i fish the way my thai family show me
get 10 people onto 2 or 3 bikes, bring 1 fishing rod and 1 hook, go to pier and find [lace to sit
send 1 bike to market to buy baby squid for bait ( only 30 - 60 baht a bag)
When they return with bait , they will have a huge amiount of food for us to eat, then i buy beer, we throw the hook in the water, sit , drink, eat, speak two different languages as though we understand each other, and generally have
a great time.
when everyone is drunk we all go home. I preume someone then cooks the bag of squid.
