Yes, in recent weeks, but it was a hell of a lot cheaper not that long ago. I guess my use of 'a couple' is a bit misleading. However, it's a rapid rise all the same.

LPG gets overlooked with these discussions, in fact, there are probably more “knockers”, than there are users!
My V8 Land Rover running on LPG will go around 350 Kms on just under 1,000 Baht, maybe a bit less on short runs around town. The LPG price has also gone up, but nowhere near as much as petrol and diesel.

It is also a much cleaner burning fuel, which prolongs engine life and time between oil changes. It does need 95 octane petrol to start, and changes over after a couple of Km’s after the engine warms up.
The other drawback is that the tank takes up a lot of boot space.

We had an LPG tank in our car and after 10 yrs. it was starting to rot. It was a good run while it lasted.

Diesel price up again on Tuesday

https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/23 ... on-tuesday

The board of the Oil Fuel Fund has raised the price cap on standard diesel by one baht, from 33.94 baht to 34.94 baht per litre, effective on Tuesday morning.

Director Wisak Wattanasap said Monday's weekly board meeting fixed the diesel price for the week June 14-21, based on the global oil price.

As of June 12 the Oil Fund was 91,089 million baht in the red, he said.

Under government policy to give a 50% subsidy for diesel from April-June, the ceiling price of standard diesel is fixed at 35 baht per litre. Monday's decision is still below that price.

The Energy Ministry is consulting with other agencies on the subsidy and other measures to contain the price from July onwards, Mr Wisak said.

There is no subsidy on premium diesel, which was 46.36 baht at the pump in Bangkok on Monday.

Diesel prices to soar above 60 baht per litre, says former energy minister
Thailand’s former energy minister warned on Monday that diesel prices could rocket to 60 baht per litre later this year, blaming the government’s incompetence in addressing people’s hardships.

Sontirat Sontijirawong, who chaired the Ministry of Energy in 2019 and 2020, said that the matter of fuel costs should be regarded as a “national agenda” since it will put a strain on the people’s livelihood.

The ex-energy minister, now a secretary for a newly formed political party Sang Anakot Thai, predicts that retail diesel prices will likely reach 60 baht per litre if global oil prices rise to US$180 per barrel.

“Every rise of one dollar per barrel in the oil prices, the retail prices will rise by 0.25 baht,” Sontirat said, citing data from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

On top of the mounting living costs, Sontirat criticized the government for its lack of cooperation across offices. “The state is still unable to build trust in the people,” he noted.

“The ministries of energy, commerce, finance, and transport continue to walk in different directions,” he explained. “It is impossible to solve the problems if the relevant agencies do not collaborate.”

Meanwhile, the latest status of the oil fund, with which the Thai government helps subsidize oil prices, now shows a deficit of 100 billion baht, according to local media reports.

Private sector wants Thailand to import Russian oil to combat high fuel prices

Thailand should buy oil and gas from Russia and Iran to tackle rising energy prices, a representative of the private sector said on Monday.

“There is a need to look for new energy sources such as Iran or negotiate to buy cheap energy from Russia,” Kriengkrai Thiennukul, the chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) told reporters.

As someone said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste." Thailand always checks the direction of the wind, before venturing outside and always aligns itself with whom they think will be the winner: Germany, Japan, US. Pragmatism over morality.

Its to do with the octane rating, 95 octane fuel can withstand a higher compression before ignition than 91. Performance motorcycles prefer it, but the most expensive benzine (yellow one) is the best (for older vehicles at least) because there is no ethanol in it. I can notice the performance difference running a motorcycle on benzine as opposed to 91 though it is marginal.

It is due to the additives in the more expensive fuel. The RON rating is still 95, but they add their own so called "enhancers". Must be better if it costs more!
