Pro Real Estate Hua Hin - know anything about them ?

Post by SGD »

Does anyone know anything about Pro Real Estate Hua Hin [ Edit websites deleted - please read our T&Cs regarding property websites ]

I am contemplating renting a property through them which would require me to send a deposit before I arrived back in Thailand and I would like to know whether this company has a good, bad or indifferent reputation in Hua Hin.

Thanks

Its normal practice to send a deposit to book a property and Pro Real estate are a solid, professional agent.

A very well known and reputable real estate company just recently "disappeared" after 20 years in the business here in Hawaii. All deposits and rent money due to owners disappeared too. I would never send money to anyone, use a credit card so you would be protected.

By credit card yes, not by bank transfer. I have Thai bank accounts so I can actually see online, prior to any transfer, whether the account name is the one they give me (even if it is in Thai, which it should not be because it is a western name company) but there is still no protection and I am somewhat sceptical.

All too easy to do. One thought of as perhaps one of the most professional in Pattaya simply shut up shop and another large one which many knew were operating shady practices for years also disappeared into the ether. Both long standing.

FWIW, bank transfers are normal practice to me in Hua Hin to make for rental deposits, that's all we've ever received/given personally. I've worked with the individuals/company in question for several years, haven't heard of any wrongdoing at all. I've entrusted them with major deposits before, as do property buyers for major amounts, the retail space they're in is one of the Hilton's units I think, so not a 'back room' outfit likely to close the shutters overnight imho.

Probably the only good thing about Hua Hin's small and 'gossipy' nature is that wrongdoers soon get 'publicised', but at the end of the day as your Pattaya examples show anyone can go bust overnight in this climate. If there's a more secure method of payment like credit card, then go that way. Just out of interest as I haven't a clue, would card payment be covered by insurance after a period of several months, ie: lots of people pay deposits now for a Christmas booking for example, would a payment today be covered if the company went bust in December say?

I would have thought so; it would be no different from buying an airline ticket months in advance and the airline going bust. As I understand it, when you buy something on a credit card, they legally end up taking on the obligation to supply the goods.
I had to recover some money that a UK train company deducted from my account when I tried and failed to buy a rail ticket online a couple of years ago, several months after it had happened. As I'd used my debit card, I had to wait a month for the bank to recover the money but they told me that if I'd used a credit card they would have had to refund me straight away.

I’ve dealt with Glen in the past of PRE and found them to be well informed of the market place/products and unbiased on developments, thus giving you the buyer/renter a level playing field and helping you make the right choice for your lifestyle home.

They have also been operating and are well established throughout Thailand for a long time and never heard a bad word about them.

It all depends on the country of origin of your cards and their consumer rights. UK cards have very good basic protection.

The only fraud case I have had is from BK from a large hotel chain where no doubt an employee used my details months later a week before the card was due to expire and run up 100,s of little bills from what looked like a local bus company. Where he/she was substituting cash buyers tickets by charging to my account. It was over 3000UKP.

If you have cards say from middle east banks these have virtually no protection and most do not even have a pin.
