Normal tip for caddie in Hua Hin ?
Normal tip for caddie in Hua Hin ?
Hello,
What is the normal tip for the caddie, excluding the price of the caddie itself ? In my country we do not have caddies, here we are forced to have one. I played in Lam Lukka and the normal tip was 100 bahts each 9 holes played.
Thanks.

Re: Normal tip for caddie in Hua Hin ?
Let's see if HH is similar to my side of the Gulf once other posters reply. Over here the caddie fee is generally 250 Baht and the caddie gets 200 directly from the club. Some cheap charlies only tip 100 baht per 18 hole if a cart is used, on the logic that the caddie rides along as well. Most though give 200 for 18 hole with a cart, and 300 if you want the exercise and walk the 18. Pete
EDIT: You have to remember that depending upon the time of day you start, the caddie may only get one 18 hole round in per day. If she's lucky to get an early morning, she can then get an afternoon as well if the demand is there. This time of year for sure though, the norm is one round for them which means 200 + tip so minimum 300, max 500 per day.
The above is what farangs tip and most Thai lady players. No idea about Thai/Korean/Japanese males. If they have a bad round or in a bad mood I imagine they may tip nothing.

I think they are really useless, and if you have a cart they just follow you for nothing. I played golf for 13 years and never needed a caddie.
So the rate in Lam Lukka it's the same as Hua Hin. Thanks.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that many caddies here on the eastern seaboard (meaning probably about half) supplement their income at the 19th hole, meaning any nearby love hotel. There are many good lookers and flirts and very obvious at the start of a round what you have. Pete

Lol, i have a wife already, i'm not going to do that with a caddie. At least if they can tell me the distance to te green and tee it's enough to earn their tip.
Re: Normal tip for caddie in Hua Hin ?
In my experience a lot of courses have markings along the fairways. Seems they like to use colored bird houses at two of the courses I play regularly, plus the odd tree jutting out into the fairway. The inexperienced caddies usually home in on these landmarks when asked distance questions. The experienced caddies give you the number immediately when they give you your club. Pete

I too, never needed or used a caddy before moving to Thailand. If the caddy just goes with me and hands me my clubs and finds the ball I give them the same as the course charges (200 to 250). If they are experienced and really help me with distances, warnings about unseen hazards, club selection, reminders of wind speed and direction, target to aim at to be safe (sometimes aiming at the pin is not the best way to go, especially for me) and reading greens, I give them 300.
Some just help transport the clubs, but I've found a few that really know what they are doing and even learn my club distances after three or four holes (if I'm having a rare consistent day) and can hand be the right club without me asking most of the time.

I'd go along with the above.
Normally, I tip 300 and only less than that if the caddie has been in a sour mood or hasn't got a clue what they're doing. Even then, I'm lothe to tip less than 250. 200 would certainly be a message that I wasn't happy.

Agree lomu! My regular caddies get 10% of any winnings on the day (doesnt amounts too much)!

If I paid my caddy a percentage of my winnings, she'd be very unhappy (and broke)!

Winnings ? You mean you make money by playing golf ? How is that possible ? Are you a pro ? The only way to make money is to have the professionnal card.

Re: Normal tip for caddie in Hua Hin ?
Don't be stingy. Caddies in Thailand make a round of golf in Thailand enjoyable and are normally well worth a tip of 300 Baht. If you joke with them and give them something to laugh about you will get a shoulder massage whilst waiting to hit a shot and they will be extra friendly. I have used caddies in many countries but have always found that they get in way and provide more annoyment than enjoyment. Thailand is different.

Sorry, my understanding of english is not good enough to understand jokes. Anyway, i know the only way to make money in golf is being a pro. You can't even win the money in a pro tournament if you are an amateur and finishes at the first place for 5 millions dollars.poosmate wrote:Johan....
