New members ... introduce yourselves!

Post by Lev »

We seem to have had an influx of new members, around 50 or so in the last couple of weeks.

We have the age old problem of very few ever posting anything though so I'm offering this thread as an opportunity to break the ice and say hello!

C'mon ... don't be shy!

Lev,
Next time you contribute to this wonderful forum, you might want to consult a dikshonry. Look at "introduce" :D
On a more positive note, it dosn't matter whether you've been here for a lifetime, a decade, a month, a two week holiday or maybe are thinking about visiting los for the first time. Everyone's got their views and opinions that will generally be valid. The more of them there are, the more useful the forum will be to everyone.
BTW, I've checked for spelling mistakes.

Hi, Gentlemen !

Post by Jimiherf »

I'm from Belgium and was in HH last January.
I only stayed a few days, but I immediately fell in love with the place !

I don't remember the name of the bar I used to spend some time in as it's out of the map here, but I guess it's on Naeb Kehardt Road, a couple of houses after an optical shop ... Excellent juke box there, and just as quiet as I like !

Anyone knows that place ?

Nothing wrong with being a passive reader I hope? We're having a house built, which should be ready at the end of the year, and hope to move to HH full time eventually. HHAD seems the best way of keeping in touch with what's going in HH while we're stuck here in England. Regards to all. Jim

Jimiherf,
Sounds like the place may have been J&B's. If so it was run by a Canadian and his Thai wife. They sold around a month ago. English chap and his Thai gf took it over. Still good for a beer or three and the jukebox is still there.

That's it !

The J&B's ... I must have had 4 beers when I went there :-/

It seems that things can move very fast in Thailand ... I just hope I'll find back the same girl on the bar when I'm back for Xmas.

Is Xmas a good period to have fun in HH ?

Going to use it as a holiday home for a few years until I can escape from teaching. Agree that this site offers lots of useful info and contacts , have already had some good tips. Shall be in HH on hol in August cant wait 11 weeks and counting.

Jimiherf,
Xmas is a good time to be in HH, although town's normally really busy, so accomodation costs go up. Weather's more bearable than at the moment.
I still go into the old J&B's and some of the staff are still there. The place is now called "The Shed".
PM me if you want to know if a particular person is still there. Don't mention the girl by name on this forum board. That's not fair to them.

Stevie,
Are you sure about the ladyboys? Certainly would make for an interesting assignation??? "Up to you" :D
Why drink less when you can drink more? A word of warning - those ladyboys sure can look lovely after 15 bottles of Chang!!!!

Ended up in Thailand and Hua Hin whilst on a world tour and now been here 7 months!
I love Hua Hin and wanted to buy/build a house here but have been dismayed by the land/house prices, guess i've missed the boat so to speak. Should have come here about 5 years ago.
So now looking for more value elsewhere in Thailand (up north).
I expect to spend about 7 months a year here as London just so stressful. There's nothing like a lifestyle change to put things in perspective

Hey Randy,
I guess a lot of us ended up in HH similarly. There's been a thread about it before.
As far as property is concerned, 7-8 years ago would have been a good time to buy whan the baht reached 91 to the pound. I leased a bar for 2.5 years then and walked away slightly up over the whole situation.
The whole "buy vs rent" thing is a matter of personal choice. I wouldn't expect property prices to appreciate as much as they do in central London. Neither will you ever get the same sort of interest rates from the bank here as back in the western world.
Then again, if that's not so important, you've got it made here.

Hua Hin is a nice place where you can find a lot of very good restaurants with Thai and Western food.
Especially the Italian restaurants are to reccomand.
That´s one of the reasons why I fell in love with this place the first time I visited it last summer (2004).
I also went to the surroundings of Hua Hin and found them really worth visiting. The Khao San Roy Yod National Park, the Had Sai Noi Beach, the Hin Lek Fay Hill, Pranburi, Cha Am, the Palau waterfalls...
I´ll be back this year in August 2005 for a couple of weeks.
I´m counting the days...
