Reliable Internet / Rental

Post by sunshine »

I would like to rent a place for 1+ month in July/August. The most important thing is a reliable and permanent 24/7 internet connection. Costs of the place can be up to 25k THB/month (all incl.).
The bandwidth does not need to be that high. Free City Wireless Internet is not an option yet as I think connection needs to be initiated every hour.

Can anybody make a recommendation? I thought to stay at SPORT VILLA but I am concerned about the internet quality as it is crucial to me and I don't want to rely on the renters advice and then arrive and get frustrated.

However this turns out, you should bring a good cell phone with you, buy a prepaid AIS or DTAC sim card and call card here...and you can be on line at 56kps (usually a bit less).

Anyway, at least you'll have a connection through your cell phone as a back up if your residence connection fails.

I leave to others to tell you how many baht per minute for connection this way. They both used to have promotions but don't know what they're offering now. Pete

Thanks. Hutch USB/Cell is an option but a good Wifi / ADSL connection would be better, so I could use the Hutch as a backup.
I prefer ADSL but I assume a min. stay of 3 months is required.

Really and truly a helpful answer for this person. Do you need funds for your plane ticket out? I'll send you some. Pete :thumb:

you could tr renting a place at Sport Villas mate....someone mentioned they pipe in ADSL now....

failing that try one of the hotels like Top Marks or Sand Inn...they may let you piggyback their connections.

happy hunting!

So you disagree. In response to the OP,

I repeat there is, virtually, nothing reliable here (Thailand).

Regarding a plane ticket - grow up.

As you asked so nicely:

trusty, authentic, consistent. Reliable, infallible, trustworthy apply to persons, objects, ideas, or information that can be depended upon with confident certainty. Reliable suggests consistent dependability of judgment, character, performance, or result: a reliable formula, judge, car, meteorologist. Infallible suggests the complete absence of error, breakdown, or poor performance: an infallible test, system, marksman. Trustworthy emphasizes the steady and honest dependability which encourages one's confidence, belief, or trust: trustworthy and accurate reports.

I've stayed in several places(the last two were G House and Putahracsa) in Hua Hin and they all had fairly good and reliable wi fi connection 24 hours.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet stayed at the sports villa but I might give them a try in August/September this year as I am looking for a place with a proper pool where I can train for upcoming triathlons...

Personally, I think many things are very reliable in Thailand and are run just as well as in most countries so I guess it depends whether you like to see the negative or the positive in life...

Internet connections are getting better in Thailand but as most Farang want to access servers outside Thailand we find the Internet unreliable.

Thai sites come up lightning fast but unfortuantely because 90% of the Thai internet market is for Thais looking for Thai servers then the Telcos wont be investing huge amouts of cash for their international gateways. Especially in these trying economic times.

It all depends what you are running for instance I do my Forex trading online via the Matetrader Client and it's on 24x7 with no problems.

If i want to view Youtube then forget it even on Maxnets 3Meg connection no chance it buffers too slow.

You also get this page can't be found a lot refresh it then it'll generally come up. So like i say it all depends on your internet habits. Email pickup via outlook or webmail should also be ok.
