Welcome to the forum Copa
I dont know what a full-time housekeepers actual hours are, but if you equate to average 8 hour working day, she is asking for this.
75 baht x 8 hour = 600 baht per day
600 baht x 5 day = 3000 baht per week
3000 baht x 48 week = 144,000 baht per year
144,000 baht / UKRate = 2880 Stg per year.
My guess is that is about 10% of what you might pay in the UK. Is it unreasonable ?.
For the record I can't remember the actual minimum wage in Thailand - there is one and I think its only about 138 baht a day. Im sure there are others on the forum who know it more accurately.
There are a whole load of reasons why someone should get alot more than the minimum wage. Loyalty, Good English (if that is helpful for you), Friendly, happy in work, reliable, no trouble.
Good luck with your search.

In answer to your question about what to pay your housekeeper. I have a full time maid/ houskeeper, she works 8 hours per day, 6 days per week and I pay her 5,500 baht per month + 1000 bonus at New Year, Songkran and her birthday. She does all the cleaning, washing and ironing, cooking and does the local market shopping she also goes and pays my bills i.e TOT, EGAT and Cat she even washes my 4 dogs every week. If you work this out to an hourly rate it is 26.44 baht so 75 baht an hour is far too much. Even if you were to pay her 300baht a day that only works out at 37.50 baht per hour for an eight hour day.

Then again, it all depends on how many hours you want her to work and how much you expect her to do. In the long run, it will also depend on how well she works and how valuable she is to you.
Not that I have a maid, mind!

Welcome Copa
We had 2 full time maids that worked 6 days a week with paid hols, free meals and uniforms and also running costs for their motorbikes.
Don't ask me, why we had 2, ask the wife.
We paid them 6500Baht each a month, in 2001-2004 so it must have gone up since then but not as high as 3000 Baht a week.
Maybe a figure of 8-9000 Baht a month would be fair, depending on the duties you set out, for a house keeper.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
Thank you all for your replies
That's what I had in mind. Thank you all for your comments.
We paid our last housekeeper 12,000THB per month (every 4 weeks). She was good, trustworthy & honest. She decided to leave us to look after her family after one of them had an accident.
So if anyone of you knows of a friend of your housekeeper, please let us know. We would be most grateful!!!!

Wow, 12,000 per month! I can't believe she walked away from that!
Ours only comes 5 days a week for between 5 and 6 hours a day and we give her major Thai holidays off with pay and a bonus at New Year.
She cleans the house thoroughly (including washing windows and bathing our two dogs a couple of times a week). She does all the dishes and the laundry and ironing as well, but no cooking or errand running.
We pay her 6000 baht per month and I thought that was generous.

I pay my 'maid' (she's actually the landlady) 100 baht a day - Monday to Friday - to do the washing up and wash the floors. She breaks my favourite mugs, ignores the bathroom, can't see any dirt above eye level (she's only about 5ft tall), and puts things in the most ridiculous places. If she doesn't come she doesn't get paid.
Sometimes I wonder why I bother. But she does feed our dogs when we go away and keeps an eye on the place. To my mind that makes it all worthwhile. She's also 100% trustworthy as far as our possessions are concerned, and that alone is worth it.
The price you pay really depends on how much you expect them to do, and don't think that the more you pay them the more loyal or trustworthy they will be.

Last bit is very true, some maids will rob you blind given half a chance, no matter how good you are to them, or how much you pay.

VS - I agree more money does not guaratee more loyalty or greater work. It can sometimes have opposite affect. More money can = more greed, more desire, more 'I have sick family', but VS honestly 100 baht a day.
and sometimes you wonder why certain people follow certain career paths !!.
Im just hoping you have small washing up and tiny floors...

Bamber, when VS said '100 baht a day', I think she was referring to each day, rather than a full day's work. Unless, of course she has a family of 15 and floors the size of a football pitch!Vital Spark wrote:I pay my 'maid' (she's actually the landlady) 100 baht a day - Monday to Friday - to do the washing up and wash the floors.

Bamber: Just to clarify: She runs the shop and pops over to the house and does a blitzing job for possibly an hour or two. It depends on how many doughnuts she decides to feed our dog.
As you well know DM, she ain't the best cleaner in the world. I just hate washing up!
When she doesn't appear, I can do the job in under an hour. She's quite happy with a nice little bit of pocket money, when she has the time or inclination...
