I don't think it was ticks, Dot. Bee checks regularly, especially as O-Buck was so hairy!
Do the ticks in Thailand carry Lymes disease ? It is very prevalent in the US and UK and potentially fatal. 40 year old gamekeeper caught it in Scotland last year and died. It is treatable with antibiotics if caught early enough though.
