Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Anyone spotted why province after province is banning alcohol.
Can't be just a coincidence that it covers Songkran. The idea is if nobody can buy alcohol then there won't be any Songkran activities.
Good try but I'm sure 'the people' have it covered!

Pretty sure you have already seen the BKK ten day alcohol lockdown. Don't think that isn't coming to the provinces ... panic buying, I'll have six boxes of rum please ...

Wow, so Prachuap have gone for the 20 day option until 30 Apr. I didnt see that one coming. It's a good job we're almost tea total in my family this year.

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
We're not exactly teetotal, BB but I decided to do "something different" during these times and stopped drinking - that was three weeks ago this coming Sunday. Another three doesn't bother me.
On the other hand, I heard my missus go out with one of her sisters about 9.15pm last night and this morning discovered 25 litres of boxed wine stacked up outside. If they've split the cost of that, which they probably have, they'll still have to ration themselves.

Is that a fact, BB. Certainly the stores I've been in were saying it's for 10 days. It appears to be 10 days around most of the country.
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Yes, with us, I can only drink Guinness in Thailand, and I don't have enough money to do that too regularly (not that we could buy it at the moment). Mrs BB can't drink for health reasons. My son has given up drinking for 12 months as part of a fitness thing, and his wife is supporting him.
Funny enough, we checked the booze cupboard last night, and I reckon we've got enough in stock to last us through to 1st May if we went party, party, party for 20 days (much left over from my son's wedding last year). So either way, we're not bothered.

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
I sort of get the ban from the 10th to 20th. That covers Songkran around Thailand (different dates, different provinces). The idea, I guess, is by reducing the availability of booze, there is less chance that New Year celebrations would erupt and get out of hand.
However, I can't see any rationale for banning it further. It solves nothing and I'm sure will cause problems. Black market booze, an increase in the use of drugs just to name a couple.
Thankfully, I'm not dependent on either. A couple of gin and tonics is nice but not essential and I have bought a couple of bottles of gin, something I can't remember ever doing before.
Typical 'knee jerk' reaction from the authorities here without thinking things through

I expected a lot of posts following my last one but most likely the majority of the Forum members ran off to panic buy some alcohol before all shops close down the selling, 555!

I've put the order through my translator, and there is a bit that says:
Hopefully one of the clever Thai speakers can say if that means what it says, or whether it's a bad translation, or I've read it out of context. To drink all kinds of alcoholic beverages until 30 April 2020.

How about Petchaburi province, is that only a 10 day booze ban?
