Wanderlust,

I will bow to your superior/current knowledge of things Thai.

However, your knowledge of Tesco UK is outdated. There is usually a suggestions book centrally situated in to which customers can register their needs. As I said earlier, unless the request is ridiculous, they will generally try to stock what is asked for on a trial basis.

This is where my suggestion that somebody should approach the Thai management came from.

As an aside, some idiot at our local branch suggested replacing the conveyor checkout with the Thai style checkouts. Obviously as they save on electricity, the idea was taken up as part of their 'Green' campaign - disaster.

My God, don't you people have anything else to do? I've never seen or heard so much bitching and complaining in my life.

If you all think life here is so damned hard go back to wherever the heck you came from, PLEASE!!

You can find nearly anything you want here, or in Bangkok if you're willing to expend a little effort. If you're not, blame yourself, not the clueless, lazy, mean, crooked Thais you're all so fond of.

:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

That was fun, thanks.

If you haven't heard of it, there's an O.K. Market that opened just a year ago on the beach road just west of the traffic light in Cha Am. It caters to Farangs and has lots of stuff you'll like.

Deliz restaurant across the street from All in One Hua Hin has exceptional Italian cuisine and stocks deli meats, take out pastas etc.

For those of you not familiar with Villa Market you will be very pleasantly surprised......well, maybe not all of you because some of you will still prefer complaining to enjoying.....

Soft drinks, water, beer and liquor is readily available at several local wholesale establishments both in HH and Cha Am. There is one just down the street from Deliz and one just past the light on the left going into Cha Am. They'll happily load whatever you buy in your vehicle for you.

There are new Macro's open in both Petchburi and Pranburi......watch out for the buy by dates tho....we went to Petchburi and I looked at several dairy products that were exactly on their expiration date.

Mentioned already are the old mall market and the Green Market on Soi 70, both of which have things you can't get elsewhere....... sorry for you folks that don't like to shop around for stuff......maybe you could find a personal shopper?

Of course it's worth asking about certain products. A while ago I asked a manager in Tesco's if they would get in a certain muisli. I told him that if he could do that then I would probably buy 10 packs of the stuff. He went away and returned in a short while telling me that he will have it on the shelves by the 20th. Sure enough on the 20th, there was lots of the stuff. I duly stocked up.

The point is that if you don't ask then you can't complain.

Sitting here in cold dreary expensive London, I long with all my heart to wander around the 'bong, bong, bong' isles of tesco's, with all its failings, and be back once again in the LOS.. You lucky lucky people.......

Mum & I spoke to Tesco management when they first opened about a certain type of frozen dog food they sometimes stock. We wanted to put in a bulk order of about 70 packs a week (can't remember the exact number, but it was fairly large). They agreed , but never came through. Sometimes there weren't any. Sometimes we had to go & pull the stock out of the freezer. They never had the stuff waiting for us in their cold room.
As I said before, I have asked Tesco management to regularly have an amount of a line that they already stock available for us. The idea being add 70 per week to the amount they ordered & keep it back for us. They failed dismally at this. About 80% of the time they had no stock at all, or only 20 or so in the freezers. On about 20% of our visits to pick-up, they had the full quota, but even then, it wasn't set aside for us, suggesting more luck than management.

T.I.G.R. - nice suggestion of shops, thanks :thumb: . Do you deliver, for those that don't have transport to get as far afield as some of the ones you've mentioned? :D

I don't really want to get involved in the debate about Tescos as I've never been in there. But perhaps this article in the British press about their top management in Thailand and issuing writs to protect their name might shed some light on things? Perhaps we'd better be careful on the board?

I hate Tesco Lotus almost as much as I hate the UK version. But then I don't like Market Village much either.

Where I live in the UK they wanted to build another all of 2 miles from one of their biggest stores, the locals rebelled and they were allowed to expand the original. It finally caters to the local huge Korean population and now has a reasonable stock of Thai basics, sadly for them, a Korean supermarket the other side of Shannon Corner beat them to it and more.

I think the old shopping mall in HH has a better selection of farang goodies than Tescos.

Sadly for me, when it comes to Tescos I'm outvoted by the missus, who likes the UK and Thai versions! :(

T.I.G.R, I couldn't have viewed it anyway. I've been suspended from there until the year 4734 or something. Not sure whether that's a Thai or Western date, but I'm pretty sure I'll be dead by then. :D

Hi there Y'all

Yo Chas you asked if anyone had ezxpiwrience shpppimg @ Villa Supermarket before, I jhad shopped a couple of times when craved for something German. There selection of Groceries from western countries and also AsiAn stuff is pretty impressive there meat dept. is on par with Hua Hin Ham & Bacon's but the latter mentioned have better quality cut as those from Villa. E personally I don't like shopping @ Tescos either but it's bareable comparing the shopping for Groceries in some of the poorest parts of India.

Your's briefly in Thailand

Wow, what a debate Tesco have caused. IMO take the place at face value wherever it is. My nearest one is a new branch in Hull centre. The 'Bong Bongs' drive you nuts, but the reduced shelf can be good. Staff are excellent, but I've yet to see the Suggestion Book referred to by Big Boy. Just rush in, get what I need, and rush out again.Needs must! Unlike the Tesco Express on Petkasem which was quite pleasant in comparison.
BTW haven't any of you guys seen the new shopping delivery service set up by the Thai Visa forum? Specialising in farang food.
And what about that little grocery store on Petkasem opposite the Tessaban - is it still there? They always had good veggies. Alternatively you could always try adapting to Thai food....

If its not easily found, just ask at the customer service desk.

At our local store they make a big thing of it with a huge listing in vert large print all of the recent suggestions, followed by what they've done about it.
