MG garage in Hua Hin is too small - thinking of buying an MG?

Post by 404cameljockey »

They seem permanently inundated with work in the garage/showroom on Petchkasem Road. When I bought my car 6 years ago there was no problem, but now every other car on the road is MG (exaggeration, OK). I used to use Tweesak Auto garage in Pala-U road but now they say the diagnostics are too difficult.

After having my car for a few days MG diagnosed the problem and ordered and received the part. 9000 Baht repair, they said two days ago. OK, I said go ahead. Now it's Saturday and still not started work. I already paid one week for a rental car as they (get this) say the only loan car they have for customer use is out with another customer until NEXT MONTH. Today they say my car should actually be queued for repair NEXT MONTH, but they have moved it forward and will do it in the coming week. I smell an awful lot of something that you usually spread on pineapple fields.

If I could ever afford to replace my car it would definitely not be with another MG.

It is not unusual to be stuffed around by local dealers. Their main function is to sell new cars, and carry out warranty repairs.

The best option is to go direct to the importer with your complaints. I understand that may be difficult for you just now, but it will get results. Just keep on it until somebody steps in to help you.

Thanks Nereus. I tried an email exchange a few times with the head office a couple of years ago when it was obvious that the new (to Thailand) brand was not being manufactured to the specs required in a hot country. All door trims unsticking, the rolling accessory cover on the dash becoming sticky due to heat and then falling apart quickly (three replacements until the last one was fine), and more, although the car is parked 90 percent of the time under cover. I received short shrift. I lived 12 years in the Middle East, I know that the spec should conform to the conditions of use.

My warning about MG stands. Shame because the car has been very drivable and reliable, apart from this visual horror, and now the deterioration of the garage service (I don't blame the staff, they must be under huge pressure to perform, but I still had to voice my complaint to them).

I get my car serviced at the same place, but living just outside Cha Am (on the HH side), I’m contemplating switching to Petchaburi for servicing and any warranty issues. The facilities are much bigger although I don’t know whether that translates into better?
I have been fortunate to have the HH loan car but that was no doubt due to my car being off the road for almost a month waiting for a new chip. Although the staff seem very willing and helpful, I’m not convinced about their capability.

Do you need to complain to China.

Well the cars are made in Thailand so not sure that would do a lot of good?

Complain to China although it might be another deaf ear.

Petchaburi MG would be almost an hour from me, too much of a stretch, but I imagine at least there should be less of a wait for work.

I've had no complaints over the years about their work in Petchkasem Road, and they are a nice bunch, except once they replaced a wing mirror with a basic white one rather than ice white like the rest of the car. I didn't notice myself for a week or so.

Tweesak were their authorised service and repair shop a while back, even after MG opened the garage part of the dealership, a shame they've dropped it.

I recently had my MG serviced at the HH dealership. When I arrived I pointed out some scratches on the bodywork which I wanted to repair and asked for a price. Later when I collected my car they informed me that they don't have a paint shop and I should go for repairs to the Nissan dealer! You would have thought they could find a subcontractor who could provide this service under their management?

But who then has responsibility for the finished product - I can understand why MG wouldn’t want any responsibility for a third party service!!

MG user give warranty repairs to Tweesak Auto. I'm not sure if they still do. Maybe it was only while they were setting uo their repair shop at the showroom.

They have replaced the part on my car they said was faulty (9000 Baht) but it still doesn't start. I'm going there now to kick some...
