Well, it looks like Vanced is officially dead, neither version of the app works any longer after all the fixes and reinstalling so I've binned them.
But no fear because there is something called Revanced that reconfigures the YouTube APK to give you the Premium version which is essentially what Vanced was.
It is a little long-winded to get it working, but I've gone through these steps and it does work (on my device anyway).
First, you need to download and install Revanced Manager which you can get here:

Then you need to download the latest official YouTube APK which is version 18.17.43:

It also wants something called Vanced MicroG:

Again, Google will flap and try to block it but just proceed with the setup and installation, it does work.
