Documentaries
Re: Documentaries
Waco: American Apocalypse
It showcases what happened in 1993 in Waco, Texas when cult leader David Koresh faced off against the federal government in a siege of 51 days.
Some quite harrowing scenes.

Got through this on Netflix yesterday. Quite unbelievable and tragic. I was but a wee nipper when it happened so wasn't familiar with it. Recommend.

Re: Documentaries
I remember it well too. With absolutely no offence intended to my American friends, it's one of those "only in the USA" stories.
EDIT: I'll have a look at it for sure, but I'm sure I've seen a documentary on this before. Is this the first?

Severe Clear is a video diary of the US drive to Baghdad during the Iraqi war. It's unexpertly shot by a frontline armored soldier and features a lot of what the front line guys say

Re: Documentaries
Just watched the Netflix Waco documentary (3 episodes). Very comprehensive. Very American ("My home is my fortress and no democratically elected government is going to tell me what I can and can't do inside it" "I have the right to bear arms, even if that means fully automatic machine guns and a million rounds of ammo").
As for how the ATF and FBI (particularly the so-called "Hostage Rescue Team") handled it... a total cock-up from start to finish. Astonishing incompetence. One thing the documentary didn't say is who got sacked as a result.
Some of the agents involved still wear blinkers and dramatise their own part, and some of the Branch Davidians still, after 30 years, believe Koresh was the 2nd coming.
People never cease to amaze me.

Oh god, there was one bloke in it who had me fingering my remote's exit button (that came out strange, you know what i mean) every time he appeared on camera. The dramatisation and ego from him was so damn cringe worthy, I found it hard to keep watching. Rest of it was worth putting up with him, though. Just. Some of the agents involved still wear blinkers and dramatise their own part

/\ From previous experience I found that the so called "experts" who are willing to go on camera are what we used to term "talks a great job" twunts.

Re: Documentaries
Have quite enjoyed "Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales" in the past, with the show following Matt Baker on the family farm in the Yorkshire Dales. A new series with Matt Baker visiting the "Rural US" (Matt Baker's Travels in the Country: USA) has just started and the first episode was again both interesting and some fun - not for everyone, but lighthearted, an easy watch with some interesting facts for good measure...
