Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
Just a quickie for folks thinking of coming out in December..The Emirates flight I'm trying to book (the website keeps refusing payment..?) is now up to £1162!..This flight went up in price by £80 over the last week! This is 4 months away!
The ToT can quote it's usual B.s. figures & speculative predictions, but fare prices alone may see many people looking elsewhere.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
Hi U/S - Blast from the past.
I will be returning to HH in November, first return since Covid and illness since 2019! I had a hell of a job getting flight tickets from LHR or LGW. Problems booking on websites or huge price increases. Eventually managed a booking (within 3 days of original required date) through Turkish - yes Turkish via Istanbul - and at reasonable price. After latest batch of medical problems I need good legroom and EVA "Elite" was more expensive than Turkish business class. EVA had already withdrawn my Gold Card status for "Silver" - not recognised by other Star Alliance partners. Turkish are SA members so I can still get points flying with them! Will be meeting up with NOKYAI so hope to catch up with you too!

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
I've used Turkish Airlines quite often and they're not bad, it's a pretty similar experience to most of the Middle Eastern airlines.
No one flies from Luxembourg to SE Asia but Turkish have a flight to Istanbul so it's the nearest thing to a direct flight there is for me.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
Not sure if this is the right forum but my question is this:
I am returning to BKK from LHR in November for a few weeks. I dislike airports and flying so I will only fly direct. As fas as I can see only Thai and EVA offer direct services. I will likely travel in premium economy, possibly business, as comfort and room are important to me. I have traveled with EVA several times but have no experience of Thai Air. How does it compare? Which airline do you chaps prefer, and why?
Thanks in anticipation.

I travel thai business when I go. Theyr 777 buiness class is comfy, downside is a massive priceincrease since last time I went, 3 years ago. Travelling from Norway, but I believe thai use 777 on all european destinations.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
So, as an update to my previous posting about flight prices..Emirates for December thru' agents like Skyscanner are up to £1352! Nearly all flights I was looking at were £1100+
Then I found out the cheapest option IMO out of Manchester was with Qatar via Doha..The Qatar flight is a decent one with only 1hr 40 mins turnaround each way..Qatar's own webpage are doing flights for about £970-£1050 (I paid 1011).
Going back to PeteB's posting...Skyscanner (for UK travellers) do have lots of Turkish flight options on their site.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
We tried to do a few days stopover in Istanbul to break the Thailand <> UK trip but found the prices from Turkish Airlines insane so didn't bother.
Went direct with Eva instead for a lot less.

How is Eva air? Decent flight?buksida wrote:We tried to do a few days stopover in Istanbul to break the Thailand <> UK trip but found the prices from Turkish Airlines insane so didn't bother.
Went direct with Eva instead for a lot less.
Do they have an onboard entertainment system?
I’m flying with them Tuesday for a work trip.

I'd say pretty average and not as good as Emirates. They use 777s which means less room in cattle class. The entertainment system only had a handful of movies, but enough for the duration of the flight.Ginjaninja wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:05 pm How is Eva air? Decent flight?

Two annoyances were being forced to wear a mask for the entire flight and the cabin crew shutting the window blinds and turning off the lights to make people go to sleep in the middle of the afternoon.

Thai VietJet launch flights from Bangkok to Phu Quoc island
https://thethaiger.com/news/regional/vi ... d-paradise
Thai VietJet announced a new international route between Bangkok and the tropical island paradise of Phu Quoc in Vietnam. The route’s inaugural flight will take off on October 12.
The route will fly between Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phu Quoc International Airport four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with an approximate flight duration of 1 hour 15 minutes.
Flight no VZ981 will take off from Bangkok at 9.45am and land at Vietnam’s Phu Quoc airport at 11am. Flight VZ981 from Phu Quoc to Bangkok will depart at noon and arrive at 1.20pm.
Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese island off the coast of Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand. The island’s waters are clear as day thanks to Vietnam’s conservation efforts and its status as a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2005.
Tourists are drawn to Phu Quoc for its 150 kilometre coastline, mountains, food, culture, evergreen forests, waterfalls, caves, watersports and history. One unmissable sight on the island is Cay Dua prison (Coconut tree prison), which was built by French colonialists to imprison Vietnamese patriots and political prisoners.
The island is home to the unique Cao Dai temple, where believers synthesise beliefs from Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Confucianism, Hinduism and Taoism.
Phu Quoc is warm all year round, but the ideal time to visit is in the dry season – between October and March – when the weather is slightly cooler.
Chief Executive Officer of Thai Vietjet Woronate Laprabang expressed excitement for the airline’s new launch…
“We are delighted to further connect Thailand with one more top travel destination of Vietnam – ‘Phu Quoc’ the emerging island in the south of the country, providing Thai people more opportunities and flexible choices to travel to Vietnam, as well as welcoming Vietnamese tourists to Thailand.”
“Since tourism is on its track to returning to the pre-pandemic level, we strongly believe that the service between the two destinations would help facilitate the region’s growing travel demand and stimulate the trade recovery of both countries, particularly, the international tourism industry and aviation business.”

Re: Thai airlines discounts on domestic flights
This reminds me of a couple of sayings in the UK, the first about the Asda supermarket price cuts “every little bit helps” but another one, from the comedian Eric Morecambe, when asked what do you think of it so far, he would often reply “not a lot”.
