I forgot to update this thread, but I got my UK driving licence renewed using my former UK address even though I hadn’t lived there for about 10 years. As I’m now 70 it has to be renewed every 3 years but as I have a bonafide address now, hopefully that should not be an issue.

Is there a time after 70 that you can't renew. i.e. forced into being retested.
I'm 76 so my licence expired 6+ years ago.

If more than two years has passed since your driving licence expired, you may be made to retake your driving test in order to get a new licence. This is especially the case if your licence has expired due to age (driving licences need to be renewed when you reach seventy years of age) or for medical reasons.

Once you reach 70yrs the UK driving licence needs to be renewed every 3 years. I reached 80yrs last October and my licence expired in September and was easily renewed for another 3 years. I still use my old UK address from where it is sent onto me here.
I complete the details online and send by airmail from HH - it is also free of charge

As a mention it is possible to drive in the UK on a valid foreign license for up to 12 months.

I've tried the link, but I am no longer resident in the UK, so I'm a visitor. I passed my test in the UK. Page goes TILT.

This is what the website shows,

Driving in Great Britain on a non-GB licence
You can drive any type of small vehicle (for example cars or motorcycles) listed on your full and valid licence for 12 months from when you last entered Great Britain (GB)
If you’ve got a bus or lorry licence you can only drive buses or lorries that are registered outside Great Britain if you’ve actually driven the vehicle into Great Britain yourself.

Reading between the lines, if you move back to the UK and use your foreign licence for the permitted 12 months, does that mean that a day trip to Calais will give you a further 12 months and so on?
