Wall Mounted Fans

Before reading this, please remember that I am useless with anything remotely mechanical, so even if the answer is simple, the solution will be very difficult for me with my hammer fingers.

When we moved here, we bought a load of pedestal fans. Over the years, I have gradually replaced them with wall mounted fans. The reason is simple, pedestal fans tend to get in the way. I've noticed over the years that there are 2 types of wall fan. Right or left handed, although when you buy them you don't know which version you are buying.

Until yesterday, we have been very lucky regarding the direction they blow. Our bedroom fan started sounding like a machine gun a few weeks ago. We took it to the repair man who fixed it. 2 nights ago, our bedroom sounded like a war zone again, and we had to resort to aircon .

These are throw away items, so I went down to HomePro and replaced it with a new fan, like for like. We got home, put it together and mounted it. Our old fan was left hand and blew over our bed beautifully. The replacement fan is right hand and blows over our legs, and everything to the right of us.

When you look at the old and new fans they are identical in every way, except the way they blow. My question is, "Can wall fans be switched from right to left hand blow?"

Is the below the one you have? It's says "left/right swing movements adjustable". Booklet come with it?

I never saw any booklet, but I've asked, and my wife produced it - unfortunately, all in Thai

At least that helps - it means somebody other than me will have to attempt it.

A job for my DIL - she's pretty good at stuff like that.

Booklet says how to put it together, not how to adjust swing from right to left

If nothing works, just reverse head/feet in bed.

Yes, the video didn't provide a solution. It could be a case of moving the fan to a better position (unsightly holes where the mounting was.

Before I would do that check all the things the remote does. There has to be a solution given that it does advertise the "right/left and stationary" adjustable swing movements.

I've tried all of that already. I think the advertised left/right swing thing is within the pre-built swing arc. It just seems to be luck of the draw what that swing arc is

It has the I-COMFORT button, which allows you to do clever stuff, but only withing the pre-built swing arc.

First off, buy a better brand. Hatari is the worst, get either Sharp or Panasonic. I recently got a Sharp for the price of Hatari. Just because it's not on display doesn't mean they don't have it. The salesperson at Lotus pulled it off a shelf when asked.
Okay so mine doesn't have a remote control, but those pull strings work just as well.
The fan when set to rotate does so in a fixed arc. You can adjust where the arc starts and stops by pushing the head of the fan in the direction you want to, left or right, it has fixed detents. Don't worry, you won't break it.
Similarly, the angle up and down has detents.
I think that is what you are referring to when you say left hand or right hand rotation?

The Panasonics are going on without problems for 10 years plus. Sharp also quite a few years, this recent purchase to add to another bedroom, yes, I don't like the floor fans and once made the mistake of buying one of those things you fill with water. It's gathering dust in a corner somewhere.
The Mitsubishi didn't last too long. Hatari even less.
Re remotes, just make sure you have a seperate physical on/off switch on the fan itself, or you'll end up with a totally unuseable but serviceable fan. I have this problem with some aircons.
Don't worry, it wont break.
