Corned Beef (COLD) and onion sandwiches always a favourite - and one up on SPAM! Corned Beef Hash was a weekly meal in my youth, not had for years so will have to try again!! Has to be had with HP Sauce though!!

Can't imagine "fried" Corned Beef - must be an "American thing" :D

Are you talking about corned beef in a tin or the slices of meat?

Pretty sure he’ll be talking tinned corned beef.

As a young boy, when we stayed at our grandparents house we would often have a corned beef and “Pan Yan” pickle sandwich for supper. Pan Yan pickle ceased production many decades ago, so it was then over to Branson pickle but still an enjoyable snack.

Oh definitely tinned Corned Beef - I've not known otherwise. Never heard of "Pan Yan Pickle", but love Branston - with cheese, not Corned Beef... :D

I Googled Pan Yan pickle and it seems that they tried to revive it back in 2008 when the “pratt” Chris Evans made a radio broadcast to try and find the recipe (one of the few good things he’s done). It was a spicy pickle and not to everyone’s taste, by I recollect enjoying it, even though I also enjoy Branson pickle (although like HP Sauce, not quite the same taste these days as it was 50+ years ago).

It didn't turn out badly. You have to heat the pan a bit then put in the slices directly from the fridge. It crisps up on the outsides which keeps it from falling apart. It didn't do much for the flavour though, tastes the same as when cold. One thing that surprised me was that there wasn't any grease/oil. I was expecting to have a half a pan full like when you cook bacon or even Spam, none at all.

There is canned corn beef in the states, but I don't believe it's popular, I've never bought any (like others spam was for camping trips and meat substitutes when I was young) . Fresh uncooked corned beef is available all year round and goes on sale around St Patrick's day. Right, or wrong, it's tradition to do a corned beef dinner then in the US.

In the migrant household it's tradition on superbowl to take a fresh uncooked corned beef, spread mustard mixed with brown sugar on it and bake, low and slow, until the mustard sugar glazes and the beef is pull apart tender. Put on bread rolls with cheese and mayo, and it's a corned beef pulled sandwich. OK getting hungry now.

Pan Yan pickle! Loved the stuff and although it went awol yonks ago, I never really loved Branston as an alternative and I prefer Heinz ploughman's pickle. I can but dream of adding that to British, or Uruguayan style corn beef, in a sarnie!

Which in the UK would be called salt beef - normally brisket.

Which whilst fairly good IMHO, isn't canned...... And far and away from what I know as Corned Beef, or would be used in any of the recipes..

Absolutely agree. However I do like a salt beef sandwich, but it's not corned beef as known in the UK.
