Thai Channel 3 News has been nothing but film and commentary from south of you where nothing is moving now except in boats. House to house rescues going on around the clock.

Hide-tide warning for Bangkok until Nov 28

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... til-nov-28

Residents of Bangkok communities along the Chao Phraya River have been told to brace for another round of high tides that could cause flooding until Nov 28.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has been working closely with the Royal Irrigation Department, the Hydrographic Department and the Navy on a joint water management plan, deputy city clerk Narong Ruangsri said on Saturday. They are monitoring runoff entering the capital from the north, as well as high sea tides that could affect riverside communities.

The Hydrographic Department recently issued a warning that there would be high tides at the Royal Thai Navy headquarters, Phra Chulachomklao Fort and nearby areas from Nov 19 to 28 between 6am and 3pm. The water in the Chao Phraya River is expected to rise in front of the navy headquarters and nearby areas to between 1.8 and 2 metres above mean sea level during this period, said Mr Narong.

“The BMA has put in place measures to prevent flooding,” he said. “Officials have been sent to inspect flood embankments and sandbag walls, particularly in communities outside flood embankments and low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya River.”

The height of the sandbag walls in those areas has been reinforced to 2.8 metres from 2.3 to 2.4 metres earlier, he said.

Teams of officials have been also sent to follow up the sea tide situation, particularly in low-lying areas, and to check water pumps installed along the river so that they will be ready for work immediately. Four mobile water pump trucks are also on standby, he added.

Just when you thought the rains had stopped.

Flood alert issued for Prachuap Khiri Khan
A flood alert has been issued for Prachuap Khiri Khan and seven other southern provinces.

The Royal Irrigation Department has said heavy rain is expected to fall in the province between next Tuesday and Thursday (Nov 23 to 25) which could cause flash flooding.

The adverse weather is due a cold front from China.

Officials have been urged to monitor rainfall closely and issue evacuation orders if the amount of rainfall exceeds 90mm in any location.

Officials have also been ordered to monitor the levels of reservoirs and dams, many of which are already at 80% capacity.

Bang Saphan and Bang Saphan Noi were districts in the province highlighted most at risk from flash flooding, officials said.

I keep seeing this alert in many places, yet I have been checking the Hua Hin forecast for Wednesday 24th November for a couple of weeks now. At no time is the forecast saying any more than a few clouds.

My son is staging an open air event (invited guests only) that evening, and the weather will be an important factor.

What does The Royal Irrigation Department know that the other weather forecasters don't?

I think the irrigation dept look at the reservoir levels, watersheds, and tides rather than some fancy app on their phones!

Everything I'm reading is saying tomorrow at 95 to 100% heavy rain. Below is one source. Really nothing big about the 24th.

They must be the only Thais that don't.

But does it work? I guess we'll find out on Wednesday when my son's event is either a success or a washout.

The apps have saved me quite a few drenchings at the footie.

Looks like we've got more than "a few clouds" down here ...

At this moment in time, Hua Hin is the same - very heavy showers. However, my comment was for day 2 of The Royal Irrigation Department warning, where the app is using terminology I've never seen in a weather forecast before - delightful

I would not describe what is going on at the moment as "delightful" unless you have scuba gear. More of the same tomorrow according to this: https://www.windy.com/?10.791,100.278,9

Yes, the way things are dragging on (just 30 hours before the event starts) we are considering all contingencies. The same apps suggested an end to the current deluge at 11am today.

Flash flood warning in South until Tuesday

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... il-tuesday

Southern provinces along the Gulf of Thailand have been on alert for flash floods and runoff from downpours through Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department issued a weather warning on Friday for residents in eight provinces — Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat — to brace for possible floodings and runoff from heavy rain that continued in the Gulf of Thailand.

The weather agency said the alert would remain until Tuesday. It also alerted ships about rough seas in the gulf.

Rain and thunderstorms are covering most of the areas in the southern region over the next seven days, it added.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat were hit the hardest by flooding in the region. Twenty-nine villages in five districts of Surat Thani and 26 villages in seven districts of Nakhon Si Thammarat were inundated, it added.

The department said the situation was most worrisome in Nakhon Si Thammarat and ordered authorities to be on alert around the clock.

The disaster prevention and mitigation office in Nakhon Si Thammarat also advised residents in districts along Khao Luang to prepare themselves for possible runoff from the mountain.

Phipun, Chawang, Chang Klang, Lan Saka, Muang, Phromkhiri and Nop Phi Tham are the districts in the province located along the mountain range.

Just when we thought this half-year rainy season was over ...

Heavy rain, flooding in Surat Thani
Military and civilian teams helped people move their possessions to higher ground after villages in three districts were hit by flash floods caused by heavy rain on Monday night.

The relief operation, led by governor Wichawut Jinto and Chamnong Sawatwong, chief of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, involved territorial defence volunteers, soldiers from Infantry Company 25 and disaster relief officials.

Chumphon flood makes main North-South highway impassable

https://thethaiger.com/news/south/chump ... impassable

In Chumphon province, the highway connecting Bangkok to the South of Thailand has been hit with a flood so bad it has been impassable. After 300 millimetres of rain fell on the Chumphon districts of Lang Suan, Sawi, and Thung Tako on Tuesday, the main artery travelling the whole of southern Thailand was flooded in several areas.

The battered province saw heavy flooding throughout several districts in Tuesday’s heavy rains aside from the road flooding. Officials in the province – which serves as the northern starting point for ferries to Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui – say this is the fourth flood in Chumphon this year.

The Flood Situation Command Centre, headed by the Deputy Governor of Chumphon, is warning that a long detour towards Ranong is necessary for all vehicles aside from heavy trucks. The re-routing advised is a detour at the Pathomporn intersection in Muang district, and the swerve to the west adds about 200 kilometres to the journey south.

The only other option currently is to wait out the flooding at rest stops and gas stations along the route until water recedes and it’s safe to proceed. A similar situation is advised for northbound travellers who are advised to stop their journey in Lang Suan or face the long detour. The northbound detour is from the Wang Takor intersection that travels towards Ranong province via Pa Toh district.
