Italian karter quits sport after throwing bumper at rival

An Italian karter involved in "disturbing events" at a race track says he has quit the sport.

Luca Corberi, 23, threw his bumper at opponent Paolo Ippolito in anger after crashing at the Karting KZ World Championships in Lonato, northern Italy, on Sunday.

Post-race footage then showed a fight breaking out.
If you missed this recent motorsport scandal, you really need to see it. Quite astonishing behaviour. Not just the 'bumper-throwing' incident, but the later attack. You'll find this via google.

Jesus! With them going that speed that bumper could have killed someone.

And this is the aftermath - an attack on a guy who looks to be about 12...

Absolutely mind-blowing. I'd seen reports a day or two ago and also believe his father who owns (or is shareholder) of the track/facility was also involved in a "fracass" after the race. I've no doubt Corberit will be banned from karting regardless of his "quitting" and quite frankly should receive a life ban from all forms of motor sport as well as face criminal charges. At the end of the day, this could have been far far worse and ended very badly for drivers or stewards alike.
